You can’t have a list of cheese boards without mentioning FARM, Janice Beaton’s flagship restaurant. While there are no cheese boards on the à la carte menu, there is a small selection of cheese on the dessert menu, and all of the restaurant’s harvest menus (for groups of 10 or more) include an artisan charcuterie and cheese board.
Monday night is alright at Farm, where corkage is free for the evening. The cozy, wee Canadian contemporary restaurant run by Calgary cheese maven Janice Beaton offers a $15 per-bottle fee the balance of the week. Wine-pairable mains include Farm’s famed mac and cheese with optional pork picnic shoulder, rabbit gnocchi and seared snapper with wild rice.
A narrow nook of a place, Farm is the official restaurant of Janice Beaton Fine Cheese, and the 17th Avenue Southwest restaurant shares its homey, wee space with a backroom JBFC specialty fromage counter. The Farm menu is suitably cheesy – its mac and cheese with pork shoulder and house-made pickles is the stuff of comfort-food legend. Additional entrees include pork ribs with fig barbecue sauce, greens and cheddar corn bread, rabbit gnocchi and seared red snapper with wild rice and veggies.
