Lots of board games are about conflict, from capturing pawns in chess to declaring war in Risk. When Tom and Wendy Brownlee opened Games People Play Inc. in 1991, they were prepared to deal with many of the common issues new entrepreneurs face when opening a new business. As a result, their shop has been a mainstay in the gaming community for years.

The store's motto is "We sell fun!" which makes it easy to see why Games People Play has become such a popular spot in its Calgary neighbourhood. The store offers avid board gamers and curious visitors everything from light strategy board games, like Puerto Rico, to 33,600-piece jigsaw puzzles. The couple also makes an effort to bring in seasonal items like kites, croquet games and stocking stuffers.
