Dripping with rock ‘n’ roll swagger and laid-back attitude, this barbecue joint and music venue is best known for its eye-popping meat platters, but it’s also a great place for sitting down for a mid-day pint of beer and a helping of fries. If you don’t need to impress someone with your breath later in the day, opt for the garlic fries, which are indeed, very garlicky.
Let’s be honest. There’s no way you would be visiting The Palomino if you were vegetarian. Most people go there to get their meat sweats on… Southern style. At this downtown eatery, among the various dishes containing in-house smoked beef brisket and Applewood pulled pork, ribs, and chicken you can find a vegetable: Delicious bacon-wrapped corn that can be ordered as a side dish or as part of the Palomino Fat Ass Platter that serves four. This double-smoked porcine bit of goodness also stars in the house cheeseburger, mac ‘n’ cheese (as an add-on), and several of the brunch features.
Downtown at the Palomino, you’ll enjoy beer and Texas barbecue in a rock ’n’ roll setting. Barbecue entrees include pulled pork sandwiches, ribs and brisket served with macaroni and cheese as well as grits. Try the two-meat platter or the slow-roasted half chicken.
