Pudding Yarn

When Sharon Schuld opened Pudding Yarn in 2005 she had no idea that her concept for a knitting store was the equivalent of a candy store for hobbyists.

“I think the most pleasant surprise I had when opening the shop was that it brings in a really happy group of customers. This is their happy place — the hobby of knitting, its what they do as mental therapy,” explains Sharon. “There are very few antagonistic people that come into the shop because it is such a great place to be.”

While knitters stop into the store from all over Calgary to satiate their need for new yarns and patterns, Schuld shares that she doesn’t plan on expanding anytime soon. “We’re not looking to become a great big company. It is not what I am interested in because the nature of this business has to be handled one on one. Knitting takes time and so does customer service in this industry,” she says.
