Meet the owner

Not everyone knows about the Reader's Garden Cafe, but those who take the time to climb through the Reader Rock Garden Historic Site or cross Union Cemetery are rewarded with views of Calgary’s skyline and fresh, delicious food. The gardens around the eatery were created by William Reader – Calgary parks superintendent from 1913 to 1943 – and cover almost three acres with approximately 3,000 plant species that bloom from mid-April to October. However, Reader's Garden Cafe owner Katherine Moore has a simple theory about why some people have not visited the restaurant, located just south of Stampede Park. “You can’t see it from the road, and people aren’t looking for it.” Other folks are concerned because of its proximity to a cemetery. “Some people love the graveyard," Katherine explains. "It tells an amazing story.”
