Establishment more than 40 years ago, Smuggler’s Inn is a classic steakhouse serving traditional cuts of beef like prime rib and filet mignon, with tried and true appetizers such as garlic escargot and stuffed mushrooms. The restaurant’s salad bar is known for its fresh and plentiful selections. For lunch, you can just hit the salad bar and order a nicely priced side from a selection of grilled meats including salmon, chicken and sirloin steak or even a grilled cheese sandwich.
Are we sensing a theme? Alberta beef is beautifully complemented by a bold Caesar, so the drink is a mainstay of steakhouses around the city. A beloved grilled meat landmark on Macleod Trail, Smuggler’s kicks its Caesar up a notch by adding horseradish (by request) and tossing in a pickled asparagus spear.
A number of entrees are available gluten-free at this landmark steak and seafood complex on Macleod Trail just south of Chinook Centre. When in Rome, do as the Romans: order the GF prime rib sandwich served with veggies, fries and garlic toast.
