Meet the owner

Canadian artist Stephen Lowe immigrated to Victoria, Canada from China in 1958. His vision was to become a cultural bridge between the two great nations through his luminous watercolour interpretations of landscapes, flora and fauna. He held over 23 solo exhibitions in Canada and abroad, and opened Stephen Lowe Art Gallery in Victoria’s Empress Hotel in 1970. Stephen and his wife Eunice welcomed visitors from around the world to the gallery until his untimely death in 1975, at the age of 37.

Eunice continued Stephen’s legacy through the gallery in Victoria and exhibited works by other acclaimed Canadian artists. In 1979, she opened a Stephen Lowe Art Gallery in Calgary, Alberta. Now, many years later, under the directorship of the Lowe’s daughter Anna Lowe Lam and her husband Allen Lam, the gallery occupies a unique place in the Calgary art scene with yet another location, becoming one of the few Canadian galleries to have two locations in one city.
