Meet the owner

A lifelong love of consignment led Susan Ping to assume ownership of Boomers & Echoes in 2003. As she puts it, “I always loved consignment. When I was a single parent in Calgary, there was a store I used to shop at for my daughter and myself. Not only does buying gently used allow you to stretch your budget further, but it also prolongs the use of clothing, so it’s in line with my environmental philosophy of reusing and recycling.”

When she first took over the store, Susan worked with her two sisters, but when they moved on from the business, Susan’s husband, Darryl and her daughter Natalie (the same one who had worn consignment duds as a tot) came on board. “It’s wonderful to be able to see my daughter so regularly because we work together,” Susan says.

Boomers & Echoes later relocated from its original Lonsdale location (where it first opened in 1983) to a new spot in Edgemont Village. Although Susan describes this as a big transition, it’s one that the store has weathered well.

“Many of our customers like the new location: it’s bigger, brighter, and has free parking. Since they no longer have to deal with the traffic congestion on Lonsdale, people from Deep Cove and West Van find it much easier to get to us. Not to mention those who live right here in Edgemont!”
