This is the mark of a true restaurant, always...

This is the mark of a true restaurant, always reliable and always value. teenagers love the pasta selection and Americana pizza. We Never had any problem but I know management are right there to deal with anything in case. Don't overlook takeout after a trip back from a movie etc. and pick-up an Italian dinner your wife didn't have to cook . Keep the number on your dash!

Great portions, Decent prices

My father took my aunt and myself to eat dinner. I am a chef by trade and have been cooking for 27 yrs. I was not impresse with the service considering it wasnt overly busy, although there was a lardge table of about 15 that took alot of the servers attention. As for the meal I must say I did enjoy everyones meal as I tasted everything. The portions were great and Even I took home left overs, Which is very unusal because I can eat alot. I will visit agaian to see if the staff can meet a better standard

Good restaurant experience

Italian Tomato is a great restaurant for both takeout and dine-in. After having visited the place many times, I can recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious food and an enjoyable dining experience. The owner is always there ready to chat with you, and often remembers your order if you've been in before. Any one of the wait staff are happy to recommend something, from the type of pasta to the perfect sauce pairing. The service is excellent and is always done with a smile, even when the place is busy. Perhaps those who have disliked the place should stop patronizing it, and instead of posting spelling mistaken laden vitriol, try a restaurant better suited to their palates.

Stay home and open a jar of ragu instead

Quite possibly the worst dining experience I have had in Vancouver, most certainly the most mediocre Italian food. We had to wait 35 minutes for a table (not the 15 we were told at the door) and were then seated outside. After sitting outside for a chilly 20 minutes, without food, I wandered in and discovered 3 empty tables, so I asked if we could move. The waitress begrudgingly said we could, but then sent us back out to bring our cutlery in saying they didn't have enough! A full hour and ten minutes after arriving the pasta arrived. I ordered the Venezia (spicy Italian sausage, chicken and a spicy tomato sauce). It tasted remarkably like ragu tomato sauce, and the sausage was not spicy either. After we sampled each others dishes it was determined that mine was the best- pretty worrying. The worst was my friends seafood choice, a handful of prawns appeared to have been boiled separately and placed on the side of the plate, they were completely bland. The portions are huge and none of us even ate half, the waitress asked if we wanted to wrap it up but we declined, she proceeded to admonish us, saying that it was an awful lot of food to waste! I understand restaurants can have off days but I think this is more than that- 4 poor dishes, begrudging service, overpriced options- $16 for pasta and pesto? $6 for foccacia with oil and vinegar? They also have a minimum charge of $14 per person, so you can't even just order a salad. None of us will be back, I've had far better Italian dishes in a pub. Save your time and money and head to a far superior Italian dining experience at just about any restaurant on Commercial Drive.
