Don’t be deceived by the “hole in the wall” exterior of this patty vendor on MacDonald Street – the fresh, hot and incredibly tasty patties easily make up for the store’s humble quarters. While you may be tempted by their taco, curry, spinach, pizza and chicken patties, you also can’t go wrong with the basic hot beef. There’s no question you’ll find yourself coming back for more next time you’re in the hood.
While tucked away in an area that doesn’t see much foot traffic, The Patty Shop has nonetheless become a Vancouver institution. This is likely because of its singular devotion to the Jamaican patty, something not easily procurable on our city streets. The small counter (unstaffed, so ring the bell for service) is where you place your order for a beef, chicken, curry or vegetarian patty, or a box of frozen ones for home, all of which come in flaky, flawless pastry, their fillings spiced just right. Handheld perfection.
