For more than ten years, Release the Hounds has given pet owners and their furry friends plenty of reason to wag their tails. Founded in 2005 by Josh Stevens and Niki Perry (one of the province's foremost trainers) in the basement of their Vancouver home, and under the direction of new president James Woller, the company has since expanded to become one of the largest and fastest growing in the province, providing dog walking and boarding within a safe and professional environment.
“Our clients are people who have chosen to have a dog in their life,” James explains, “and they either want to give them a great experience or they need help with care. Meaning they work twelve hours a day and they don't always have the time to give them the exercise and social experience they know their dog needs. So, we help them along on that path.”

I cannot say enough great things about this company! James is a genuinely cares to ensure owners and their pets are satisfied with the service his company provides. 2- hour hikes are well worth the money as our girl comes homes all tuckered out. She has learned great socialization, under the guidance of her walker, Kevin. Do not hesitate with this company!
I am incredibly impressed with the quality and dedication shown by the whole team. They are very flexible and accommodating and understand that schedules change and are always very helpful. Our dog Pepper has been walked by the release the hounds gang for many months, and we are thrilled. They are great to deal with, and Pepper gets a big adventure in the mountains, with her dog friends, and a responsible walker to make sure she's safe. We started using Release the Hounds boarding service for one of our trips. Our puppy, Kobi was 10 months old at that time and we really want someone to look after him. One of our biggest concerns was to find a place that would be able to keep up with our puppy's trainning (housetraining, no jumping on furniture, no pulling while on walks, etc.). As you can tell, our dog has some pretty strict rules. A friend recommended James from Release the Hounds to us. James was great and efficient at finding a good house-sitting match for Kobi. Stef was an incredible in-house boarder and was extremely professional. They understood our needs of the ongoing training that we were doing with our puppy and also the need to socialize with other dogs. After spending 4 days with Stef, we came home to a new, and improved puppy. Kobi was much calmer around other dogs and learned how to RELAX at home. That's how we started with Release the Hounds. Kobi now gets a weekly walk with RTH. Every week, our puppy gets to go hiking in his pack of friends and learns how to walk in a group. He gets to be socialized with many other dogs. Danielle (Kobi's favourite walker) also gives us feedback on how he is doing and his progress every week. She also works hard on improving Kobi's recall so that he can be safer on walks. She also works on gradually increasing Kobi's leash length to train him to be better on walks while off leash. I really appreciate how Release the Hounds takes the extra effort to make my dog a better dog. I would highly recommend their walking and boarding services to all dog owners and lovers.
Our two dogs go on RtH's two-hour Adventure hikes several times a week. They get tons of exercise and socialization, and they come home so happy and exhausted. James and the rest of the RtH staff are really lovely and always happy to chat about how the dogs are doing. James is quick to respond to phone calls and e-mails, even outside of his regular working hours. They are very accommodating of schedule changes and are very reliable. Our dogs are always waiting at the door tails wagging when it's time for their hikes!
I have been taking my dog Mattie to RTH since she was about 4 months old. We started with training and etiquette classes and now Mattie goes for a weekly hike with Danielle. I couldn't be happier with my experience at RTH. I am a better dog owner because of the amazing training classes and Mattie is a happy girl because she gets to go on a field trip once a week while my husband and I are at work. RTH is a responsible and caring company when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of my dog. I would recommend RTH for any dog owner.
Release the Hounds is an outstanding and reliable service. James (the owner) and the dog walkers are extremely professional, friendly, reliable and really care about their clients. When I first became a client of Release the Hounds, James kindly travelled into the city (at my convenience) to meet me and my dogs and talk about the services Release the Hounds offers. James is very responsive by email, telephone and text. I have always heard back from James within hours of contacting him, whether it be on the weekend, in the evening or on his days off. Many times I have made last minute requests to Release the Hounds and they have gone out of their way to accommodate me. Release the Hounds also offers flexible boarding services, allowing clients to choose between having a staff member stay at their home with their dog or have their dog stay at a staff members home. One of my dogs needs very special attention during walks; he tries to eat anything and everything off of the ground. The dog walkers have been very attentive to this and take extra care when walking him. I highly recommend Release the Hounds and assure you that your dog(s) will be in great hands.

Release the Hounds has been great at accomodating my always changing schedule and always finds a way to fit Iksi in on a walk. Iksi is an extremely high energy dog and I can never manage to tire her out as much as her hikes with Release the Hounds do.
Our "All Canadian" mutt, Charlotte has been hiking with Release the Hounds for almost three years. She is always happy to see her dog walker, Jordanna, and eager to hop into the van, which takes the dogs on various adventures on the North Shore mountains. Charlotte always comes home content and tired. The staff at RTH has been accommodating and supportive whenever we need to change or add a walk.. When we had a sudden change in our summer plans, RTH was helpful arranging weekend dog care, even organizing easy solutions for picking Charlotte up and dropping her off at convenient locations for us!
I just moved to Vancouver last May and spoke to a number of different companies before deciding on Release the Hounds, I wanted to make sure I found a good fit for me as well as my dog. I really liked how professional, organized and promptly James got back to me with answers to my questions. I have a Jack Russell who doesn't always fit in, and James was very understanding of that and worked with us to find the right walk and the right pack for Ellie. He was honest with me as well, which for dog owners who have quirky dogs is so refreshing. Based on Ellie's excitement level when she gets picked up I feel confident saying she has a blast. Ellie always comes home happy and tired. Any time I have needed to change her schedule James has been nothing but accommodating.
We've been with Release the Hounds for at least a year now and everything has been ideal. We signed up with the previous owners and stayed on through the transition to the new ones. The communication and reliability have gone way up since the switch. Based on our pooches excitement level when she's getting picked up I'd guess she really enjoys her time with Steph. RTH can keep walking our puppy as long as everyone is able and willing!
Since first sending our doodle Brewster out for twice-weekly hikes last summer, we've been very happy with the service at Release the Hounds. Brewster is a super active dog, so we really appreciate the 2-hour North Shore excursions, where he has a chance to run fast and play hard. Jordana-our walker-always takes care to give us detailed updates about their adventures, and returns Brewster home clean as a whistle every time (a remarkable feat given how much he loves to swim and play in mud!). We've received lots of personal attention from James and other staff at RTH and know that we can always reach them with questions, concerns, and special requests.
