Science World's iconic geodesic dome is perched at the end of False Creek, an easily recognizable landmark that's a favourite of locals and visitors alike. And its exhibits, live shows, feature exhibitions and Omnimax theatre — the biggest dome theatre in the world — are just as iconic.

Science World opened on Granville Street in 1982 and moved to its current location in 1989. The building was renamed the TELUS World of Science in 2005 and in 2012 the outdoor Ken Spencer Science Park opened. The park, which is open from March to October, connects visitors with the local environment, offering them the chance to “learn about urban agriculture in a hands-on way. We have chickens and we have green boxes where we experiment with plants that grow well together,” explains Andre Coronado, Science World's Digital Communications Coordinator.

Kid-friendly Vancouver museums for the whole family

Kid-friendly Vancouver museums for the whole family

From the giant ball-rolling contraption in front of the museum to the many activities inside the spacious building, everything here is designed to be touched and enjoyed. Kids can test their eyesight, step inside a giant bubble, or play with sound and light for a completely interactive experience. There's an IMAX theatre on site as well, but the two-level museum is enough to keep you busy for an afternoon or longer. The museum staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and there are fun science shows throughout the day.

Another Vancouver landmark, and one of the city’s most recognizable attractions, Science World has monthly exhibits on everything from human anatomy to dinosaurs, from the science of animation to the science of…cocktails! This is education like you never quite get in school: vivid and larger than life. One feature you don’t want to miss is the largest OMNIMAX theatre in the world. A staggering five stories high and 27 metres wide; this cinema will give you a dizzying, immersive experience.
