What do NBA star Steve Nash, hockey great Trevor Linden and race car driver Greg Moore have in common? All of these renowned athletes were born in British Columbia, and all are inductees in the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Founded in 1966, the BC Sports Hall of Fame honours the incredible achievements of local athletes, sports pioneers and those who dedicated their lives to building sports in the province. Located at BC Place in downtown Vancouver, the museum features a wall covered with the names of nearly 400 deserving inductees – individuals and teams dating back to the 1880s – as well exhibits with more than 2,700 artifacts that tell their inspiring stories. “Each year, we induct usually 10 individuals and one or two teams,” explains curator Jason Beck.

A lifelong sports fan, Jason clearly remembers when his dad took his family to the BC Sports Hall of Fame in its former location at the PNE's BC Pavilion. “I was so excited because I was a huge Canucks fan,” says Jason, who was eight years old when he first visited the museum. “My heroes back then were Stan Smyl (inducted in 2005), and Trevor Linden (inducted in 2011), and I was lucky enough to be present when both were inducted.”

That love of sports led Jason to study history and Canadian studies at Simon Fraser University before he eventually took over as the BC Sports Hall of Fame curator.
