It's ramen time in Halifax
This establishment is so enthusiastic about ramen that it occasionally holds ramen nights. An enormous bowl comes at a discounted price, with a $2.00 discount if you reserve it in advance. The kinds of ramen vary – from traditional hot miso-style to Hiyashi Chuka, a type of cold ramen with cucumber and shrimp. Ko-doraku used to be a very popular lunch counter, but recently expanded into a full-fledged restaurant in the bottom of Spring Garden Place mall; it's slightly cafeteria-like, but the tastes are worth it.

Try the huge rolls stuffed with delicious ingredients like shrimp tempura, salmon, barbecued eel and spicy sauce. Sushi connoisseurs rave about the perfectly prepared rice, cooked by the chef with such pride that rice bags are featured as part of the decor! You can really sit down and enjoy your lunch here, too, with plenty of seating and beautiful decor.

A world of sushi in Halifax
This is probably the best sushi you will ever eat on a styrofoam plate! Ko-Doraku has two locations: Purdy’s Landing and the food court in Spring Garden Place, the latter of which has become a stand-alone restaurant with direct entry from Brenton Street. Chef Shuji Manabe knows Japanese cuisine inside and out. He has been working the Halifax sushi circuit longer than anyone, and is responsible for opening a string of sushi restaurants back in the ‘90s. The menu at Ko-Doraku is limited, but you are guaranteed to eat some top-quality sushi here on the cheap.
