It was Friday night and of course the place was full.. But our server (cannot remember her name) was fantastic! You would have thought we were the only ones there. We started with a crab dip. When it arrived it wasn't really hot - but she took it immediately and brought us a tastey very hot replacement quickly. Followed by tastey caesar salads. Hubby had Sirloin steak and I had Prime Rib, which was so tastey and just melted in my mouth! Yum! and of course finished with Billy Miner Pie. We have eaten at the Keg many times, but never this location. Everything was fabulous. What more can you ask for ... and dinner with tax was under $100 ... that too is fabulous! Next time though, I won't want to sit in the "runway", the strip outside the kitchen ... rather be in an actual dining room area ...
I like the keg. What I don't like is the 2 hour long wait, with not enough waiting area (standing around in hallways etc.), and the prices. We can cook steak and escargot at home, just as well as they do, and pay half the price for it. I don't think the keg is worth what you pay for, and if I hadn't of had a gift card, I would not pay for it out of pocket. If I was going to spend almost $200 on a meal, it will be at some swanky place downtown, not the keg :)
Two dined here on weekend last frisay night. I was entertaining a young lady of foreign origin and wanted to put all in. Took the lady friend to The Keg like a proper man should. not too many kids and thank god no friends or co-workers (god knows we went far enough near her house) Anyway it is really expensive at this chain and you can get a bill topping $100. Coz we ordered wine and went all the way to impress and of course the lady in question was impressed alright/ Long wait is kinda embarrassing but for a feast of steak and wine The Keg is the real deal
Every time my husband and I have been to the Keg, it has been great food all the time. I have never had one complaint about the food and service. Yes, the wait times are long but that's to be expected when the restaurant is that great. You know it's good when there is a line up. We tend to go during the week on non-busy times and never had to wait more then 5 mins. We have been there where we waited 30 min for a table but well worth the wait. The prime rib melts is your mouth! And you go to the love the warm sour dough bread...hhhmmm just thinking about it now :) We have neber tried the deserts as we are always to full but I bet there just as awesome.
My gf and i were celebrating her birthday and i took her to the keg for dinner. We went early so there was no wait but some times can get up to at least an hour and a half wait. Our waiter was very pleasent and we could tell her was getting used to the resturant (looked new) He was very polite and made sure our drinks were topped off. Our garlic bread was very tasteful and there was no burnt pieces at all. Our food came and we both prefer our food medium, but we recieved our food undercooked. It was a little cold but overall was a very nice and pleasant dinner. I will for sure go back because it is a very nice place to take someone for a sophisticated dinner
Loved the steak, service was pretty good.
The wait time to get into this place can often be horrendous! I waited one hour 30 minutes to get in! I'm not kidding, this place is that busy! I give it that the food and staff is wonderful, but the place is expensive. I can pay less somewhere else and get fed faster instead of waiting to get in. You can often get a comparable, cheaper steak and get in faster at Caseys just down the road.
What else can be said about The Keg. I use The Keg as the basis for all other restaurant reviews, especially when ordering a steak. The Keg scale works like this. A Keg steak is arund $20-$25. If you cannot get a better steak for that price, why go anywhere else. The Kegs is gorgeous inside, even better on the patio and the food is oh so good. I just wish I could go more often. They also have an excellent wine list.
Our steaks were cooked perfectly, though mine was slightly underseasoned. Our server was very friendly and explained the entire menu to us! However, when I asked if the "chipotle mac and cheese was hot" he said yes. When it arrived, I couldn't really feel any heat (especially given the CHIPOTLE part!) so I asked him why it wasn't hot and he said he thought i meant "temperature hot". Well, duh! Obviously mac and cheese is going to be served temperature hot!!! Anyway, he took it off the bill and all was good. We will definetly return to the Keg in Ajax.
It was a fantastic experience all around....beautiful new restaurant, excellent service, our waiter was hilarious but also very accomodating. I would highly recommend this place and plan to go back again soon!
it was oky but it could havebeen better if the waitress was a little more patient
The restaurant is new, large and nicely decorated but it was like Grand Central Station back and forth by our table. Server was too chatty. Prime rib was excellent, veggies crisp and large baked potato. Steak was a little disappointing with a bit of grissle. Caesar salads looked very appetizing until we both found several bits of brown romaine lettuce.......not my idea of fresh! This was brought to the attention of the server who was apolygetic and offered another one. (Would have appreciated maybe being deleted from our bill) We didn't have appetizers, drinks or dessert. Total bill just over $60. OK for an anniversary dinner but I wouldn't return for a casual dinner any time soon.
This is the second time we have been to the Keg as a family and I ws dissapointed in just about everything I had. The first time we went it was a Tuesda y evening and it was not as busy. Our server was fabulous and everything we had wa really good. Last night, Saturday night, the p;lace was packed and just about everything i had was lacking. Starting with my drink - I ordered a vodka & Tonic - you'd think that would be simple but it had no flavour to it, too much ice and the vodka I could hardly taste. I think by the time it got to me the ice had watered it down. The second one I ordered - thinking it might be better wa the same thing. Not sure how yo can ruin such a simple thing. Next Ceasar Salad - sooo much dressing on it it was almost inedible, Steak - N.Y Striploin. It was cooked perfectly but there was no juiciness to it and the end which was considerably thinner was too well done. The vegetables were onions & red & Yellow peppers with 3 snap peas. 3 that's it. I like green vegetables - the oinions & peppers should be secondary to the green veg. Next - dessert - I ordered the Brownie with caramel & chocolate syrup and there was neither when it arrived and it was sooo huge I should have shared it. So will I go back - probably during the week when the attention to detail would be there. The place is gorgeous though and sitting at the bar with an appetiser and a drink is really nice. I think the dinner cost us about 350.00 and for that price I would have expected more. Diane
We have tried to get to The Keg in Ajax 2 or 3 times a month since it opened earlier this Summer. It has always been great. The steaks and trimmings are consistently delicious and perfectly cooked. As far as a steakhouse is concerned, thisplace has it all. You can go downtown and spend 2 or 3 times as much, but you won't get much better than this. The patio is wonderful and the servers are friendly and knowledgeable. There is always a lineup for dinner so go early or go late, but go! Highly recommended. Try it and you will definitely be back.
