I haven't really ...

I haven't really been to many sushi places but i really liked Fuji's, the only thing i didn't like was that the waiters didn't speak very good English and they seemed more into talking to themselves then the customers there. The food and atmosphere was very nice, they were fast and efficient.. I don't know if they actually read the reviews, would be great if they did.

disappointing

I've been coming here steadily over the years. My last visit was yesterday, and I found my overall dining experienced to have gone down significantly. Maybe I'm just accustomed to much better sushi in Toronto... because I found the food here bland, stingy and lacking in freshness. We purchased a "deluxe bento box" for $15.99, which probably would have been ~$10 at my favourite sushi place in Toronto (with bigger portions on top of that). Fuji's came with two sad-looking pieces of salmon, rice discernibly leftover from yesterday (eww), and soggy tempura. We also got Alaska rolls for $6.99 and what they gave us was pretty pathetic for the price. My friend and I assessed the sad-looking plate with disappointment... and gulped down the tiny pieces within a minute of receiving our fare :'( To top everything off, servers were inattentive and kind of ignored us lol. Never coming back here again.

Not bad

Went there twice, I am a big fan of sushi, and I pretty like the sushi there. Although they only have small number of options, the food are pretty good. For sure will visit again!

DELICIOUS!

A group of 8 of us made a reservation at Fuji for dinner and we ALL loved it! The sushi and other dishes were very very fresh and SO delicious. The salmon sushi pizza was incredible. This is only my 3rd or 4th time having sushi but this was my best experience so far. What a gem!

CONFUSED!

I really don't understand how this place has such high reviews! I am an enourmous lover of sushi and after living in Vancouver, and Toronto I have been lucky to have eaten some of the best! After moving to Guelph I have been missing my favorite food. My husband and I decided to try this place after looking over this site and seeing the reviews, All I can say is it is mediocre at BEST! we did the all you can eat which is what almost everyone that came in did, well we order a spectrum of things and it was all just ok, the green salad that I love as a palette cleanser, that is traditionally served with that wondeful dressing came out with thousand island, they put the same sauce on much of the rolls we ordered, the eel pizza was dry and very over sauced etc....... if you are a TRUE sushi lover try Samura at the super 8 motel on Woodlawn! we go in on the weekends and we are almost the only non-asians in the place and to me that is a true indication of authenticity!!

We went to Fuji after a recommendation from a friend. We had currently been going for lunch at W and decided to change it up. We were glad we did, when we walked in the restaurant was empty so this put us off, but we stayed anyway. The price was also not listed on the menu, so we asked, it was $13.99 for lunch. Our server was a nice but awkward boy and he was very attentive. They dont rush you or hold up your order like a lot of sushi places to try and get you to order less. My boyfriend ordered the sushi and said it was much fresher and tastier than W. He was very very very happy with his meal, and the variety was amazing. They had over 140 items on their lunchtime menu, with one whole side of the menu dedicated to nonsushi items. I do not like fish and so had the "non sushi" items. Again, i found much more variety than W Sushi, and the taste was better. I found the chicken and rice at W sushi was overly fatty and salty, but I had some very nice Chicken Teriaki, and Chicken Curry which were not overly seasoned. The waiter was very friendly and personable, and seemed to remember his customers. As lunch went on it got busier and he made an effort to talk to all customers. The service was great, as was the food for the price

generally foods are okay for this price for sushi buffet. Menu are quite big, i used to love going to this place until i tried other buffet place in Guelph. Most of the staff can't speak proper English, the owner takes all the tips. So i would suggest if you really like the service, give it to the waitress directly without letting the owner knows.

Fuji has revamped. I went a week ago (Jan 10 2010) and the service and food presentation have both improved a lot. The maki and sashimi are average. I haven't come across any bones, but I'm pretty sure that they get the fish pre-cut into fillets, so the bones were left in by the manufacturer. My favourite is the grilled mushrooms, steak teriyaki and butter eggplant. For an AYCE sushi place requiring mass cooking, the quantity is obviously more important than the quality. This is one of the better AYCE sushi restaurants that I have been to (being an asian living in Toronto). If you really want good sushi, don't go AYCE. Typically, you will still be satisfied for about the same price. If you still complain... go to Japan.

The food was ok. I say ok because, let's be honest, it's a buffet-style restaurant. All-you-can-eat equates to lower food quality. It was adequate. What really turned me off was the mayo used. THEY USE TOO MUCH OF IT! It was fairly unappetizing to be frank - especially in the various sushi rolls and sushi pizza. * Service was fairly good. The order-style was new to me, so I had a little trouble at first; a waitress gladly helped me out. That was nice. As well, the waitresses stopped by frequently to ask if I needed anything. Food took a little bit to get to me, but I was preoccupied eating to notice it much. A waitress even asked me if I wanted dessert when I was finished my meal. Very pleasant service. I am however a little curious regarding the somewhat shady tipping receiving methods..? I offered a tip to the waitresses whom served me at the paying counter and was told that the tips were 'shared' by everyone. The clerk then went on to put the tip I offered into the cash register -.-.. I wouldn't be surprised if they are not to receive anything. If you are going to tip, BE SURE TO GIVE IT TO THE WAITRESSES FIRST-HAND! * The store had a somewhat Japanese atmosphere. There were many traditional Japanese decorations here and there, and the servers had to dress in something which seemed Japanese. Despite this, it was just too loud and crowded. I couldn't enjoy my food because of all the noise around me. Quite annoying. * I'm not sure if I will go there again. The sushi was quite sub-par and tip methods shady.. If I am down and feel like stuffing my face in, though, I will probably stop by again. ^^

I absolutely love this place. I think Fuji is the best in Guelph. I've always went to Kitchener to get sushi but now I have a place to go that's 5 min away from my house. The sushi was prepared fresh and well prepared. The service was kind of slow. I went by myself and the waitress did the average job, but never bothered to ask how the food was or even give me a second round of order sheet. Other than that, loved the food!

Bones?? In sushi??

Be careful eating here. The white tuna roll contained bones, one was quite large. Also, one of the fish on the rainbow roll had bones in it to. We were quite disappointed. They had different rolls than we had seen before and having a description of what the rolls contained would have been useful. On our second order we stayed away from the fish and were not blown away by the california or cucumber rolls we ordered. Sushi (rice with fish piece) was not bad, and you got a good quantity of fish. Service was about par of what other all you can eat sushi restaurants are like. Place smelt like sulfur when we first added, not sure if thats something they put in the food or if they had a gas leak. Will not return.

Love this restaurant

I love this restaurant. While the service is slow and questionable at times I couldn't really care less because the food is delicious and comes hot. Anything salmon is tasty as heck. and the seaweed salad is delicious. my only complaint is that they could make their 'spicy' dishes a bit more spicy. Otherwise - it's a very good place to go for sushi if you don't mind the average decoration and average service.

You are missing out if you are settling for Fuji!

I am a sushi and japanese-style foods but at this all-you-can-eat, I have never been without feeling like I'm compromising quality and taste for money. As a student, my friends often request that we go to Fuji for economical reasons but I think that the next time I will have to decline. The miso was absolutely terrible the last two times; no flavour and much too salty. The unagi roll I had the last time was overdone, chewy, and had too much rice to fish. I ordered a platter of sashimi with wasabi and the wasabi was dried up and very clearly old and refrigerated (that was really disconcerting and I let the rest of the table eat most of it). The service is bare minimum just so long as you get used to meeting the servers half-way and signaling whenever something is needed. However, I have known some all-you-can-eat restaurants to have strange policies when it comes to tipping so I asked my waiter if he got to keep tips and he said he didn't! To make sure I understood him, I asked him when I paid if he would be able to keep my tip or a portion of it if I tipped and he said he didn't. It may have been a miscommunication, but he seemed to understand me during the entirety of my meal and I don't see much of a motive for him to have not been honest about it. Overall, not a place where my money belongs.

Delish!

This was my first time having sushi and I must say I am craving it again already. I found the vegetable tempura to be quite greasy and therefore hard to eact with chopsticks but it was good. The vegetarian platter was amazing and the tempura yam sushi was my favourite. Our server was very attentive.

bhavin: I have never been a huge fan of sushi, but Fuji blew me away. There food was of excellent quality, and I especially like how the buffet was organized. The service was very good; the waitress did forget a few things, but it was not a big deal, and they were very nice about it. Also, on a side note for anyone that is interested, their platters that you can order are amazing. Great value for the amount of food you get.
