Great place to find an import if you can take the smell.
This bar, while having a vast assortment of imported beers is hard to stomach even after consuming quite a few of them. The pungent odour for one is just offensive, you can smell the bathroom even before you make to the door going downstairs...once down there, it's simply nauseating. The old velvet/velour brown seating has been eaten away by the years, leaving behind something akin to an old, stained, filthy couch on the side of the road. I shudder to think of what's imbedded in the upholstery. I could even concede that being such an old establishment such quirks could argue character, but having spent some time there and a good sum of money the owners themselves put me off the most. We asked for a Kwak beer and were told they only had the magnum size by our server, wanting to see the glass she was kind enough to inquire on our behalf but we were told we could only look and not touch by the "boss man" as we weren't willing to purchase the giant over-sized bottle. Nice, and here we just spent a bunch between the 4 of us & had been nothing but model patrons. The dirty look we all got was a nice touch too. Note to the owners : You should clean up that dump of a bar and learn to treat your customers right. Especially when they drive a long way to spend a good deal of $ in your establishment.
I went to Chester's last Saturday and had a great experience! Our server Brenda has been at this location for 32 years I think she said! She was terrific and funny, not to mention that our drinks were NEVER empty!
We enquired about the menu and I chose the Philli cheese sandwich which came with fries and house made coleslaw. It was great!
The decor is awesome! We half expected the Rat Pack to come out and sing to us. Bathrooms need a reno but every thing else was spotless!
The mayor and his wife popped into the Fingers...also owned by the same people.

As a regular at this fine watering hole, I must declare that Chester's is a most refreshing change from the cheap larger-fueled teen crowd that socializes at other establishments. Our association of celebrants always finds the massive choice of beers and pub fare to be of the highest caliber. The service is always with a smile and prompt, and we never feel pressured to order more than we can ingest. We raise the standard 15% tip to our highest level-16.5%, and that's with pleasure. We urge all Hamiltonians, great and small to visit Chester's. It's a jewel in the dented crown of Steel Town's downtown core.

I have been going to Chesters for years. I dont know where the last person went but there is another bar on Bay and King called beers of the world but that place is a hole. Chesters Beers of the World on King and Hughson is an incredible place. The food is always good and the beer selection is huge. They only have one type of draft. That is because they want clients to sample the incredible beers from Belgium, England, Germany, Italy and countries that you wouldnt even thought brewed beer. Yes the decor is a little old but you feel like your in an old time bar in New York City. The owners Mike and Louie are very friendly and if you have any questions on the beer you are drinking Mike will tell you anything you need to know.
Chester's has food? Huh. That's not why we visit. Probably one of the best beer selections in Ontario - certainly the most extensive I've ever seen here. The decor, frankly, looks as though it's straight out of the '70's. And oddly, there always seem to be the 'regulars' sitting up at the bar drinking the likes of Bud or Coors. But take some friends, find a cozy booth, open one of the multiple pages of beer in the menu, close your eyes, point, and enjoy the surprise! It is so much fun to sample one another's choices as you flip trough the selections! Served in appropriate glasses and at appropriate temperatures - Chester's is a beer-lovers treat (spoken by someone who isn't necessary a beer lover, per se!)! Just make sure you take a cab home.
If you like a wide selection of beer and a little story about each of them - this is the place for you! I've eaten here for many things - although bar food late is my usual. Everything I've had here was very good. Highly recommended!

I go here quite regularily with friends. It's the greatest place - I don't get why it's not busier!! I've only had wings there once, since I usually get there after the kitchen has closed, but they were really good!
No matter either way, I go for the beer - not the food! They have like 200 beers or something...amazing!! The boss is really knowledgable and helpful and some of the server's too. The only downside is a couple of the servers are not the best...a couple of them are friends and are always there when the other one is working and they tend to forget they are supposed to serve the customers. The other servers are great though - you just need to learn what days to go on.
Overall - a great place if you're a beer drinker and like a classic pub-style bar!

This restaurant is in the heart of Downtown - you would never guess this place has so many varieties of beer until you read the second part of their name "beers of the world"
I couldn't believe how many different beers they had - it was great - if i lived in Hamilton I would go there every week and say I have had all their beers - I had Hoegardeen - have only had it once before and i liked it a lot. I will be visiting it again.
This place is awesome! They have so many beers that you can't get anywhere else! I've been here many times - for lunch they have specials and the cooks are very accomodating to make things just how to like it. Some of the newer servers aren't as great, but the service is still better than most of Hamilton. I recommend it for everyone - especially the beer drinkers!!

This place is my favourite place to go for beers. The patio is handy enough to watch the weirdos wander through Gore Park, and yet in the atmosphere of a classy cozy bar. Great selection of beers too!
Not a bad place. Very cozy place with a nice atmosphere. Great selection of beer and finger foods. Service was prompt and attentive. Had a nice variety of food. Great burgers which are freshly made. Also not bad wings. Will definatley be visiting again.
