The experience at Henry's South is just as unique as Sans Souci. 'I originally believed that it wasn't just our location (on Frying Pan Island). I think that the quality of the product stands for itself,' recalls Elliott. 'So, I thought let's try one on the mainland because not everyone has a boat and not everybody likes the water.' The second location is at the Wye Heritage Marina on Ogden's Beach Road, bringing the same appeal as Sans Souci to the mainland.More...
I've been cottaging near Henry's all of my life however I'd never been to the ICON location - solely to the booth at the boat show. My partner and I were in Midland and decided that we felt like a good dinner ..and we both love fish..so we made the decision to enjoy Henry's South.
The restaurant was extremely busy however we were greeted and seated promptly. We couldn't make up our our mind so we went with the platter for two, four types of fish, baked beans, fries, coleslaw. Three of the items were identified as pan-fried and one as the deep fried fish & chip style.
Our faces dropped fairly quickly when we were presented with a platter where every fish was coated in batter. We were assured they were pan-fried however obviously we should have asked more questions...and/or perhaps the server could have described the meal to us in advance.
We did tackle the large dinner however unfortunately we really weren't in the mood for that much batter and for the most part the fish just all blend together into one hard to recognize mass. When we spoke to the server apparentely all of the fish on the menu that says pan-fried is all done in batter.
If you are in the mood for great fish and chips I'd still certainly recommend the restaurant. Ambiance was good, view great, the service fine. If you are looking for your fish to be cooked in any other way than in batter then it's best you set your course for another port.
While I would hope that Paul reads these reviews, I'm not too optimistic . I have been coming in here for years, both for business and pleasure. Tonight, a local party of 10, and I have never felt like I, (we) were such an inconvience. Realizing that this place is busy, (many of us boat at the adjacent marina), when we arrived we were told about a ten minute wait. No problem, right? After waiting an hour, one of our group walked in to see not 1 but 2 tables for 8 that were empty, inside. Nope, they were going to serve us outside, only. Finally, when a gazeebo croud left, we were told they were going to serve us outside, but, the restaurant was going to close in 45 minutes. Really? Like put us on a timeline now? Just not right, especially in these times where the area is struggling for tourism. Keep in mind, when the tourists go home, we are your business. Treat us as equals, ok? Cheers!
Half of the fish choices were not available. Pan fried pickerel (frozen) was deep fried, stiff and tasteless.
Fries were pedestrian. However the baked beans and cold slaw were good.
Glass of house wine was $10.00 ?
Server was far from " world famous " as advertised on
T shirt. Seemed to be in a fog.
The best place to share a fish platter for 2. The portion sizes are more than enough, you might even take some home. The coleslaw is to die for..!! Cozy, warm & inviting atmosphere. We look forward to returning each and every time.
Very good! Everything was great. The battered pickerel was a tiny bit greasy but not enough to worry about. Fries were great, baked beans were amazing. We were a party of eight and everyone enjoyed the experience. Will definitely return the next time we are in Midland
We ate at Henrys this weekend and it was without a doubt the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. We will make the three hour drive in the future just to eat there! One person in our party never eats anything except ocean fish and he has now become a Pickerel lover if it comes from Henrys. This is true value for the money spent!
Excellent service and food. Our 1st time visit, as recommended by father-in-law who is a local resident and frequent Henry's visitor. We sat on the covered outdoor patio and enjoyed the marine scenery. Meal was delicious with salad, beans and pickerel done to perfection. Portions a bit too large for an average appetite. Looking forward to returning.
This is a great restaurant.
You can eat in or have a drink at the bar, plus, there is a covered and an uncovered outdoor patio right on the waters edge over-looking Georgian Bay and Doral Marine which is part of Henrys waterfront.
Amazing food and service.
Great portions and the fish is really fresh.
