The food was just okay- much more fast food style then authentic Mexican – but the service was very friendly and the place was clean.

Too bad it's soo far!

I had a dream about eating at this place last night, so I thought that I'd write a review! I've eaten at this place a handful of times and I've never had a bad experience...ever. I would go more often, but it's very out-of-the-way for me. I usually get the chicken burrito and free chips+homemade salsa are included. The meat is fresh and not dry like other places! Salsa is definitely not Old El Paso. Aside from the homemade and freshness of the food, what sets it apart is the non-chain decor and the friendliness of the staff. The atmosphere at El Sombrero really makes you feel as though you're somewhere else - as opposed to a strip mall in Mississauga. :) Again, I wish that they're open up a location south, closer to me, an actual sit-down restaurant with servers, and an extended menu will probably succeed as well since there aren't any Mexican restaurants nearby!

This is a self serve restaurant, don't expect waiters. However the food is so good you would expect this place to be more like a fine dining experience. Lunch time it is crazy busy. Go early or go late if you don't want to wait in line. The servers are very fast at moving people thru. I usually go 3-5 times per year or more. This is not a fast food franchise so the prices are higher, and the portions are very large. Much healthier than I had expected compared with other Mexican restaurants.

Everything you've read good about this place is the gospel truth. Our meals were fantastic, service was very friendly and attentive, and there was legit ranchero music playing on the stereo. HANDS DOWN the best burrito ive ever had, and their enchiladas are fantastic. Already planning our next visit.

Limited variety (especially if you're vegetarian) but the Enchiladas and Burritos are good choices. If you don't mind fast food, this place is recommended!

This place reminds me of Mexico-very nice

I thought the food here was great. The people were friendly as if they were from Cuba. The atmosphere reminds me of Mexico when I lived there for a few months. It is absolutely refreshing to get off the Hurontario after battling a bunch of lousy drivers and come to a friendly restaurant like this. If you like Mexican food you must try this place.

My boyfriend & I go to this restaurant on a regular basis. Nice atmosphere, food is reasonably priced, friendly staff, quick service! Food here is always fresh, hot & tasty, real Mexican!!

Great place, not the biggest menu, but the Tacos are great! Quick service, small and cozy!

Must-Have Burritos

I have been to this place many times in the past, and every time, I never left with a complaint, and would recommend it if you're looking for a good, local Mexican restaurant. Parking should not be a problem being in a commercial cluster. Ambience is authentic with spanish music playing in the background (a bit on the louder side, but not loud enough to be an irritation), room painted in Mexican yellow sand colour and various other things that makes sure you know where you are. Also have a nice, little patio in front. The place is casual, so you order your food, which you can grab yourself, or they will bring to you when ready. Seat yourself place (i.e. part fast food, part sit-down restaurant). Like any other Mexican place, there are many meat dishes, but there are options for vegetarians as well. The burrito which is of a good, hearty size always pleases. They also provide a few types of hot sauces depending on your heat preference. Oh, and they will provide complimentary taco chips - a bit too salty but seem homemade (but could be wrong). I've been told to watch out for the lunch crowd because a line will form, so that should determine it's local success.

We were looking for a restaurant with waiters etc...not a self serve restaurant so my initial reaction was disappointment but after we got the food which was incredible, the beer was ice cold, we had a very good time. It obviously is well known in the neighbourhood because it got very very busy...we definetly go back again...

My first time ever visiting here -- all I can say is wow. That was the best chicken burrito I've ever had in my life... so much so, that the first thing I did was come and write about it on here. I was a little skeptical of it, because I'm one of the odd people that actually DISLIKES peppers, and would normally get my burrito with no peppers. This place has the peppers already mixed with the chicken so I was getting ready to think I wouldn't like it, but boy was I ever wrong. Even the tortilla wrap seemed home made, and was nicely grilled and perfectly chewy.. Very impressed, and will definitely be back. I actually found it spicy though, and I did not order anything spicy on it :( Not sure how that happened Cheers!

The food was ok. Not spicy at all but just ok. When we first walked in I loved the ambience and the traditional music. However, as soon as we got our meal, (I think it was the owner??) Turned on the tv and had the NEWS blaring. There were 2 other couples in there as well. I was not happy at all and not sure if I will return because of this.

i love mex & tex-mex , this place is brilliant ! the beef in the natchos was roast beef , not ground beef and the chicken burritos are my absolute fave ! They have a breakfast burrito too , So you could eat here breakfast , lunch & dinner ! sounds like a plan .Excellent - hodge

I've been going there for about 2-3 years now and this place is great! my personal favorites are the burritos, and chili just the best thing ever. The place is nicely decorated and has a very warm cozy feel to it. The service is a hit and miss. Sometimes its like a fast food joint and others they treat ya really nice.

I moved here from Arizona about 5 years ago. My husband has had to hear me complain about missing two things in that entire time, my family and good Mexican food. Now I will only complain about missing my family. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Even the design of the restaurant makes me feel at home. I can hardly wait to sit out on the patio come this summer.

The best mexican food outside of Mexico...service amazing, portions very generous...and believe me you will never go back to Taco Bell, or Mexicala Roas, or Buritto whatever up the street...I have been going for 4 years and I love it!!!!
