Baked chicken on Rice! Sooo good!

If I can recommend on this here, it is the baked chicken in cream sauce on rice. It is excellent and bursting in flavour. All other dishes are just as good. We just keep coming back for me. Glad we don't have to travel to Markham for this kind of food.

    HK restaurant in Sauga

I have been to Macey's many time and I finally felt compelled to write a review, this little restaurant attempts to replicate the feel of a typical corner restaurant in hong kong, and to my amazement it does so quite well. After the years it has also acquired the typical cantonese crowd to complete the atmosphere. The menu offers a wide variety and on this visit I decided to test the kitchen in several ways. Starting with the milk tea, it would be the simplest of orders yet in order to replicate the feel of a HK restaurant this beverage was required. I then asked for one unpopular dish (the salty fish fried rice), one popular dish(cantonese chow mein) and one customized dish(spicy battered fish), I also had a congee and a vegetable dish but they were very simple and I personally did not touch them. Out of all these dishes the drink was presented and made well, the rice was evenly fried and the rice itself wasn't salty, only the fish bits but it wasn't overwhelming or felt out of place in the rice, this is actually quite challenging since shrimp paste is used for the fish. The chow mein had adequate amounts of shrimps and squid which most restaurants usually skip out on, the sauce was present and softened the noodles but there wasn't too much to make it soggy. Last the custom dish was made very well, there wasn't too much batter on the fish and the pepper stuck to the batter in a very evenly balanced proportion. The service was good in terms of Chinese restaurants in this price range, there won't be any quality check or questions of opinions and satisfaction but the staff were very polite and understanding. Being able to speak Cantonese definitely helps things go smoother. The restaurant overall isn't very well decorated yet there is an attempt and it is overall fairly clean, the genre of customers also add to the atmosphere, it is by no means luxurious but definitely quaint and possibly calming.

    Straight-Up Canto Diner.

It's a bit difficult for me to review this place as I honestly think that Chinese food is terrible, mediocre at best, in Mississauga. However, I thought that Macey's deserved an honourable mention. After closing for a brief period, Macey's re-opened with new staff and I can only assume, is under new management as well. Although many people mentioned renovations, it looks exactly the same to me. Even the menu is the same! The menu consists of HK standards, congees, noodles in soup, fried rice/noodle dishes, baked rices, etc. Atmosphere is unpretentious, it's basically a Chinese diner. Patrons consists of lotsa Chinese locals with a few Caucasians mixed in. I ordered Cantonese Chowmein, $10 and Bean Curd (cubed tofu) w/ Cream Corn, $7.50. Chowmein was at least 4 servings, if not 6. I'll be eating it for quite a few meals! Nothing extraordinary, but both were good, standards. Service was efficient, no-nonsense. We were received at the door right away.

No other Chinese Restaurant comes close for me!

I've been going here since I was a child. Whenever my family goes the waitresses can name what my family is about to order haha. They are definitely my favorite restaurant! I haven't found a curry that compares, the quality of food seems to be good, the waitresses are pretty good too. My family loves it here, and my boyfriend loves it here too :D. I should say though, I noticed recently that somedays the food isn't as good as other days. Perhaps there is a new chef? But in general, I still love the place. My family has had 1 or 2 bad experiences here (i.e. long wait or wrong food), but I don't think I would hold it against them.

Your typical Hong Kong style Cha Chaan Teng

This is your typical low-end HK style cha chaan teng (diner). Unpretentious, consistent and comforting food, all in large portions and with reasonable prices. Everything arrives hot and fresh, and the waiters are quite friendly, efficient and not pushy. The food is slightly above average (everything's tasty, but sometimes, they use a bit too much oil or load on excessive amounts of sauce). One thing that definitely stands out, however, is the shrimp won ton noodle soup - huge wontons bursting at the seams with shrimp so fresh that the meat still retains some of that characteristic springiness that defines...well, really fresh shrimp. You can definitely tell that these won tons are made in-house daily.
