I felt trapped at this awful place and I saw a cockroach on the floor I will never go there again. The steak had to much pepper on it Yuck!
absolutely loved the food! my boyfriend had the lamb tenderloin wrapped in porsuito said it was the best he ever had. the risotto was so tasty and the calamari was better than the danforth's. the manager was friendly to us but noticed him be snippy with another table. will definitely be going back just for the food and the atmosphere which we found romantic.
Waiter said at the beginning: we are offering champagne with orange juice My husband clarified if it's free Waiter said: nothing in this world is free (very condescending When I asked if they have chocolate milk for my 5 yr old daughter, waiter snickered and said "we don't serve that kind of drink here" When asked by my dad what appetizer he would recommend, waiter said "I don't know what you would like. What I like, you may not. We are different." so my dad re-phrased his question to something waiter might comprehend and asked what is the most popular or which item most people ordered.. He just told my dad to decide on his own. All other places have answers to this common question! When my parents switched seats after a restroom break to wash hands, waiter got very offended when serving entrees. "it is very confusing when customers do that and that is not how it works here. We are very professional.". We have been to much fancier restaurants and were never treated like this Trapper waiter did. These are all facts. The manager himself said he heard it himself and apologized. Tried to make it better by giving us $20 discount which we refused. It's not about the money. Waiter: bald/shaved headed guy
We had a baptism lunch at Trappers and were very pleased. All 30 guests complimented the food, service and atmosphere. Vishal, the owner, was very accomodating and made sure everything went smoothly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced and the service was prompt. I didn't see the restaurant before the reno, but the restaurant has a great decor. I'd make this a regular place, once my newborn gets a little older :).
I haven't been to Trapper's for awhile and decided to book with a couple of friends the Saturday that past. I wasn't sure if they were open becuase they were under renovations but I decided to call anyways. Let me just say that the restaurant looks absolutely inviting. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic and a perfect place to just relax and enjoy a meal. The food was delicious! The menu had lots of choices and every item on it sounded enticing! The service was excellent. The waiter told me that they will be hosting a grand opening on Monday, June 6th with free hors d'oeuvres and cocktail. I will definately be attending with some friends!
Its been six years since I've been back to Trappers. My husband and I havn't been out for a while since we've been busy with the kids. Let me say, my surprise birthday with our family was very special! The champaign service and the wine selection was the icing on the cake with the high quality of meats and poultry we had. Thanks to Trappers I decided to have our parents 40th anniversary party at Trappers after the new renovations!!Thanks for the exclusive menu, looking forward to the experience once again!!!
Went to Trappers for dinner, and despite the negative reviews, I was optimistic that this was going to be a good night. From the beginning, the servers were extremely impatient. We told them that we needed a couple of minutes to decide on the wine and we were also waiting for the rest of our party. Yet, they kept on coming over to our party and continued to push for drinks. I guess they had no one else to serve because we were the only ones there. They should also give people extra time to look at the menu because the restaurant lighting was extremely dark and the blinds on the windows were all closed. Maybe that's their way of trying to create an atmosphere. But I think the real reason for all the darkness is to hide the ugly and completely out-dated decor. Anyhow, we ordered appetizers and entrees and when it finally got to our table, it was anti-climatic. I expected the presentation of the food to be pretty impressive but it wasn't. The mussels looked average and the calamari was on a small plate with everything thrown together. Main courses also looked mediocre--nothing special at all. But, I have to admit that it tasted ok (nothing spectacular). I guess I had expected more from this self-proclaimed fine dining restaurant (as per the manager). We get to the end of the meal and ordered coffee; it was cold (I guess we should have told them HOT coffee). We finally get the bill and we felt there was a discrepancy on the bill. Trying to straighten it out was a lost cause. The manager and our server started to argue with us and became very rude. The manager basically said that he was the manager and anything he says is final. Needless to say we were in a disagreement with the restaurant. I understand that a restaurant has to make money and you can’t always please the customers, but this was ridiculous. When we put down our money, the server said loudly (so we could hear) “Let me check that they paid us the right amount!” They were rude and were calling us names as we left It was obvious that this restaurant was trying to portray itself as a fine-dining restaurant but the service and food told another story.
Let me tell you why I feel so strongly against this place they call "fine dining." For starters you would expect exceptional customer service if they are charging you $30-$60/person. That is not the case here. I came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and brought in our own cake - not on the menu. First thing when I came in, I asked the waiter if it was ok to bring the cake inside, and was told that if we cut it ourselves we can avoid the charge of $2.25/plate. Clearly we were fully capable of serving ourselves so I told him no need for assistance. After the waiter brought the cake over to our table, almost immediately after the birthday song, the manager comes up to us and insists on serving the cake to us. We told him that it's ok because we plan on cutting it ourselves (to save $22.50 for a party of 10). So the manager vaguely said to us, we do not let our customers serve themselves and he became so persistent on cutting it for us that he came back and forth asking to take the cake away while we were still taking pictures with it. Long story short, they charged us extra for something we didn’t ask for. When we tried to clarify the issue, all our concerns were ignored and on top of that they put all the blame on us! Here are a few insulting words the manager at Trappers Restaurant said to us/his customers: “You guys were disrespectful to bring in your own cake...have you ever been to fine dining?” - This made me wonder why they didn’t say anything when we first came in and how rude?!! “...let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for the coupon you guys wouldn’t come here” - What does that even say about their business. “I hope you guys do worse in life!” - He said that on our way to the door. The result: we had no choice but to pay extra for “services” they added to our bill but we took that amount (and more) out of their tips. Overall, the food is average, location isn’t very convenient because of parking, decor inside and out is old, and customer service = the WORST I’ve ever experienced!
I booked a reservation there on Tuesday night for my birthday! The food was absolutely delicious! I loved the Atlantic Salmon! The service was great, everyone was friendly and attentive. | would recommend this restaurant to anyone. A must try!
Service: Went there for my Aunt’s b-day, and the night ended in disaster with the manager calling us names! We brought in our own cake and the server informed us that there is a $2.25 open food charge if they serve the cake for us. So we asked them not to serve it, so we wouldn’t get charged and the server agreed. Long story short, they slapped a $22.50 open food charge to our bill anyways! The manager said that as soon as we brought the birthday cake into the restaurant it was ‘disrespectful’ and regardless what their server said, their policy was that there is a charge no matter what. Then he further insulted our party by condescendingly saying, “This is a fine dining restaurant. Have you ever been to one?”. Even though, he admitted that his server misinformed us, he still went ahead and charged us. Since, he refused to lift the open food charge we left without paying gratuities for such poor service. At this point, the manager continued his rant by calling us ‘troublemakers’ and by telling us that “we wouldn’t get very far in life.” Need I say more? Nonetheless, can this restaurant really call themselves fine dining given such an appalling display by the manager? You’ve been warned, don’t fall for it! The name says it all. Food: Stay away from the appetizers. Put together hastily.
tried this place out with my family for the first time after moving into midtown. The service was very good but the veal was excellent!!
My 2010 Summerlicious season ended on a sour note at Trapper's. We were a group of 11 who got together to celebrate a friend's birthday. From the moment we got there we were told we had to leave by 7:30 and were rushed to place our orders even though a quarter of our party was still missing. Reluctantly we obliged. The appetizers arrived quickly. The majority of us ordered the shrimp and scallop appetizer which was slightly burnt. We were busy chatting and enjoying each other's company when the waiter felt the need to remind us that the appetizers taste better when it's hot. We finished our dinner at around 7:00 (half an hour before our scheduled exit) and was deep in conversation when we were told to leave so that they could prepare for the next summerlicious group. I have never felt so rushed and unappreciated in all of my dining experiences. I thought that the purpose of participating in Summerlicious was to showcase the restuarant so that a new group of clientele could be gained and return in the future to pay full price for their meals. If that is the case, Trapper's has failed miserably. While the food was passable, the service and atmosphere tainted my entire experience I vow never to step foot in that restaurant again.
A great Saturday Night! I made reservations and wanted to check it out. I heard great things, but I had to try it out for myself. I Loved this place! The food was amazing. The food presentation was really nice. I wanted to order wine and I'm not really an expert at ordering it. The server was very informative about the wine menu and was able to suggest some wine that we ended up really liking. We had a great experience and my date really liked it. I liked it because it was elegant and romantic. I will definitely go back.
Fantastic Restaurant. Good crowd great food awesome service. Made for a great date atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
I have been dining at trappers restaurant for over 25 years, recently we were a group of 10 customers, during the summer season 2009, we had steak and fish and the chicken, and we all hated it. The 'service' was terrible, it is one of our boycott restaurants now. We highly recommend to AVOID
I took my family to Trapper's last week and we had a very nice evening. We were really impressed with the service as they were very attentive to us. This is a restaurant that I will go back to. It was a recommendation from my friend, so I decided to go. Some of the dishes we tried was the calamari, which was EXCELLENT. You have to try the calamari, whatever you do! My wife had the risotto which I tried as well. It was perfect. I have had risotto at many places, and it's not always easy to get it perfect. I was impressed. As a main dish, I tried the veal briskett and it was very filling and really tasty. As a whole, we're left with great things to say. I will definitely go back.
Hi, we went for dinner the other night - the service was quite nice, the food was good - the fish was perfectly cooked. Will definitely go back.
i,have been dining at trappers restaurant, for over 15years, recently we were aparty of 20guest, during the summerlucious 2009, we had steak and fish and the chicken, and we all love it, the service was excluisive, it is one of our favourite restaurant , we highly recomend this place,
i went to trappers restaurant with a party of 6 on SATURDAY night and we all decided to try appitizer and main courses, we had the trappers salad and the onion soup , the goat cheese, and the calamari, they are all to die for, their angus steak and venision and sweet bread, along with their, mussels, chicken and atlantic salmon, with tandorri , is some think to try on your next visit. we alllove the dessert, and the server is very experience, we have 15bottles of house to chhose by the glass, also lots of Canadian , and new world wines up to 200different bottles to choose from , i personally highly recomend , if you have never been there give a try .
We had heard a lot about this restaurant and many people had told us that "you HAVE to go to Trappers" if you live in the area.......Perhaps this was a good place 10 or 15 years ago but it is not now. The service was horrible and the food was tasteless and boring. Their wine list was fairly limited and the first 2 selections I made were out of stock. NEVER GO BACK
The dinner was delicious. We had carpaccio, Caesar salad, Kale salad, salmon and seafood risotto. Everything was great! The waiter was attentive and helpful.
Excellent dinner. We had seafood and fish.
Kale salad was very tasty along with the perfectly cook scalopes. Our waiter was very helpful and knew when to joke alittle. Our waiter gave us time to chat. He waited for a break in the conversation ti ask about dessert. The chocokate fudge cake was to die for! Good variety of wines. Thanks for a great evening with old friends. We were able to talk and hear each ither without straining. Just a great evening all around. Thanks Glenn
Best fish in the city
Need to brighten the place up. Way too dark brown to highlight the lovely food!!!!!
Nice experience, well priced.
Mixed views. The dining room has no atmosphere. I felt like we were at a breakfast counter. The strong smell of mustiness hits you when you walk in the front door and stayed with us through dinner. The staff was enthusiastic but inexperienced. So the price they charge for dinners doesn't match the staff and dining room. If they don't correct this soonP I suspect they will not last long in this neighborhood The food was excellent but I cannot say we will return.
Food was cooked well, sauces were amazing and the taste was perfect. My husband & I really enjoyed it.
Food was good, but too many bones in the black cod. Portions very small.
Our wonderful delightful server was the icing on the cake of a wonderful evening!!
This change in ownership is welcomed. Patron of Trappers in the past, but believe the dining experience last Friday evening was a step up in service and quality. Enjoyed the new ambience.
Our food was absolutely delicious and our waiter was helpful, yet not intrusive! We had the nicest romantic dinner alone in the restaurant. We will definitely be coming back soon!
Very personable and accommodating service. Menu choices well explained. Prices a little on the high side. Check for Coupons online.
Our waiter Dimitri was excellent, attentive and very friendly. The food was delicious and very well presented. Over the past 30 years, we have eaten many times at this restaurant and its predecessor (Trapper's): overall, that was our best experience. We will go back.
We arrived and restaurant was closed. Not impressed.
Great place, will recommended and will definitely go back
We live nearby and finally had dinner at BK. We were not disappointed. While it was a bit barren for a Saturday night, which hurt the atmosphere, the food and service were very good. We will return again soon.
Great new resto , delicious food!
It was a lovely evening. The food and service were terrific. Its not often that everyone enjoys their meal, and we all did here.
Service was amature. Food was OK restaurant was dingy
Great service, good food, nice dining atmosphere.
We went to Blakod for my sons birthday. It was an excellent experience. The Signature dish of Black cod is a must. It just melts in your mouth. The blue crab cake was awesome and the black kale was delicious. We had a great server and tried a new wine Sensei which surprisingly went great with all our seafood choices. Will definitely return.
Enjoyed meal, good service, will come back!
The food was excellent, good presentation, delicious. The staff was courteous and prompt. I highly recommend it.
Excellent place in the old Trappers location. Food was delicious. Wish them luck
A steak restaurant and the steak was tough. Other than that, the food was good but not memorable. Too bad because it's a neighborhood restaurant for me.
The food was excellent. The service was also excellent. The atmosphere is somewhat stark but once they lowered the music, you could have a conversation. It was a very enjoyable evening.
Meal was wonderful. Menu had a wide selection of starters, salads, pasta, fish and meat. Good variety. Wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Atmosphere was quiet. Waiter explained restaurant it was still soft opening and this was third menu, It is a winner.
This is a newly branded restaurant formerly known as the Trapper. They are trying to be a bit more upscale now. They seem to be fairly new at this as the server did not know what the specials were and had to read it off the board. The menu online is quite larger than what you get in the restaurant. We started with a Caesar salad, wild boar sausage and calamari for appetizers. The portions were small but tasty. You only get one sausage split in half. For the main course two people ordered steak, one person ordered the special which was fish and I ordered the Cornish hen. The steaks were good. The Cornish hen was alright, tough to eat. But the special was not delivered to the kitchen to unfortunately that person had their meal once the rest of us were done. The server apologized and offered a glass of wine on the house. Overall I was not impressed. The food was alright but the portions were small, but the service went the greatest.
