I enjoyed what I ordered

I actually ordered by phone and it was delivered in 30 minutes piping hot. The eggrolls (60) were a little overdone but edible. The Almond Chicken Soo Gai (70)was made with nice white chicken and the sauce nice and thick. The Chicken Chop Suey (92) was delicious as well. I have eaten in the restaurant a number of times and always been pleased. My daughter has gluten and lactose intolerance and the made the food so that she could eat it omitting gluten. The chef personally came out to talk to her to see what she couldn't eat. I highly recommend this restaurant.

If you're like me, you want your food prepared quickly, fresh and tasting delicious. You also want friendly service - there's nothing more annoying than waiters/waitresses who are slow, not attentive, uncommunicative and just bloody rude! I heard about this restaurant from a few friends of mine and I must say, it's become one of my new favourites. I've been eating here for almost a year and i've noticed that it's gotten a lot busier - that just shows you they're growing in popularity and definitely doing something right!! The price is affordable and the portions are usually generous or just enough (i.e. it's not stingy like other chinese restaurants. Let's hope it stays this way!). It's location is easy to find -- you guys should definitely check it out! I highly highly recommend it!

Recently I've gone for personal lunches and dinners but also for a large 20 person party the restaurant worked out. The food's consistently been fresh, portions just right for the price and right flavours. It's smaller than your average restaurant but what it lacks in capacity it makes up in overall service and food quality. Lunch and dinner times are especially busy while the rest of the day is fairly slow. Don't let these times discourage you, when it's busy, it's busy and well worth the wait.

Awesome

Although there weren't alot of people there, and the space was a little small for my taste, the food more than made up for it. Portions aren't very large compared to the usual Chinese restaurants, however, prices are very reasonable. All the dishes were fresh and delicious...the service was excellent. Previously, i had been going to Congee time at Yonge and Cummer for Chinese food, but after discovering this hidden gem, i'd recommend this resaturant above any other.

Will not be returning...

After reading several of the reviews on this site for Not Just Dim Sum, I decided to give it a try. My partner and I went around 6 p.m. on a Saturday evening. There was only one other table being occupied in the restaurant, however our server still decided to seat us at a table where the sun was shining directly on us...not a big deal, we were able to close the blind if neccessary. We placed our dim sum order. I opened the lotus sticy leaf to and realized that it contained pork...please note that it does not state that this item contains meat on the menu. We informed the waitress that I don't eat meat and that we weren't aware the dish contained pork...she didn't offer to replace the food item and we were still charged for it. The next item that I decided to try was the pan fried shrimp and chives, however there was no shrimp inside. There was pork and chives. Our server went to the owner and asked him what she should do, without even coming over to our table and looking at the food he told the server to tell us that it was shrimp, but we could have the item removed from our bill. It wasn't shrimp and I thought it was rude that they couldn't admit that a mistake was made. My last complaint is regarding the wine, the first 1/2 litre we ordered was great, chilled to perfection. However, the second order of wine was not. It was warm and tasted awful! We advised our server and she said she could bring us a pitcher full of ice to put the wine on. The steamed vegetable dumplings and shrimp dumplings were both delicious, however I've never been to a sushi/thai restaurant where they weren't. We did not have a pleasant experience at this restaurant. If you are vegan/vegetarian, this restaurant is not for you.

Having lived in the Yonge/Finch area for a while, I always pass by this restaurant and think to myself that I should visit it. After a few years, I finally went and it was great! Eddie, the owner, is very friendly and a gracious host. The SUnday night dinner crowd was mostly students and young couples. Onto the food....the dumplings were delicious and the Scallops were tender and juicy. The Shrimp and Spinach dumplings were large and flavourful. The food is as fresh as it gets. This place is definitely worth repeated visits and should not be missed. If you're looking for a great little place to have dim sum or other asian inspired dished, Not Just Dim Sum doesn't dissapoint.

Three friends and I had a craving for dim sum last night and we remembered a recommendation for Not Just Dim Sum by a relative of mine who lives in the Yonge & Finch area. The restaurant decor was nice and everything was very clean. We were all really impressed. But what we enjoyed most was the delicious food. All dishes were made to order and everything was hot and fresh. Overall, the experience was more than satisfying and we will no doubt visit this great restaurant again. What a hidden gem!!

I go to Not Just Dim Sum very often - I'm probably one of their two or three most regular customers (I've beem there 3-4 times a week, for the past couple of years). The reason why I keep going back is the fresh food (all the ingredients are fresh, excellent service, generously healthy portions, and the affordable prices, not to mention that the tasted of the food is excellent. I work across the street in the office tower, and I can tell you that when we have a company lunch or an employee lunch, our team members vote on where we go. Since we discovered Not Just Dim Sum, we have almost always unanimously chosen to go there time after time. It is popular with the people who like genuine Chinese cuisine (like me) and those who like some Canadian-style Chinese food. Some of the dishes I highly recommend are in the "what did you order" section above. They also have a nice selection of soups and I'd recommend the hot and sour soup as well as the seafood soup. If you are a vegetarian (as some of my colleagues are), there are lots of choices and healthy portions of veggies done in a variety of ways. When I say healthy portions, I mean that. I never leave there feeling hungry. The staff are friendly, attentive and really make sure that the customer is taken care of. Not just with my own experience, but when I see others coming in, the servers are quick to greet, take drink and appetizer orders, provide extra napkins, take away dishes, etc. It's a great team there. They always take time to talk with me, joke around, etc. The manager of the restaurant is a very nice guy, he will come around and say hi to all the patrons and ask how things are, etc. I think his personable nature really makes the customer feel valued and it is refreshing to see a restaurant manager who takes an interest in his/her patrons. The washrooms are spacious and comfortable (at least the men's one - I've never been in the women's one - which is a good thing). Of course, as this is a review, I will temper the good points with some areas of improvement. I would say that one area that would be possible expansion, since it is very busy on Fridays at noon and even at 1:30, I may not get a spot (and I've seen others walk away when it's too busy). While this is a testament to the quality of the food and restaurant, with it being packed every week, more space would be welcome (of course, this is tough, as they are in a corner location and so expansion is difficult. In summary, I would give Not Just Dim Sum my highest recommendation. You won't be disappointed when you go there, and if you're like the many people who have been there, you'll go back again and again.

A visit to the Yonge and Finch area is not on any...

A visit to the Yonge and Finch area is not on any tourist's map, so it was entirely based on previous reviews that I sought this restaurant. The decor was Youthful Millenium Modern: halogen lights and urban rhumba colours done smartly enough. At noon on a Thursday, we were the only customers until office worker types joined us. There were no Chinese customers, which usually doesn't recommend the quality of a Chinese restaurant. Fortunately, the food dispelled all my disappointments. We ordered 5 Dim Sum classics, and the Cantonese Chow Mein. Everything was fresh, flavourful and seemingly house-made. The Steamed Beef Sui-mai was of the typical restaurant texture, but without all the usual MSG. The Glutinous Rice Dumpling was excellent, although sadly it was served already removed from its Lotus Leaf wrapping. The pork within was rather lean, which isn't the traditional mark of quality, but then of course, we have endured about 3 decades of the anti-fat brigade, and the overall marriage with the yolk of salt-egg and yellow-split-peas was accomplished. The Pan Fried Turnip Cake was made from coarser gratings of turnip (aka mooli or white radish) than is normal, but with the other ingredients of Chinese bacon, dried mushrooms, etcetera, were wonderfuly balanced. The Steamed Bean Curd Roll with Pork was well stuffed and dressed, and was at the chewy and crispy end of its range, but at least it hadn't been sitting in a steamer for hours. The Steamed Vegetable Dumplings were sufficiently bland to suit the purist vegetarian tastes. The Cantonese Chow Mein was an enormous serving for the price, carefully cooked and authentic provided that you can ignore the completely un-Cantonese broccoli, horse-sized carrots, and Seafood Sticks that have crept in to remind you that you are in North York. The best way to visit this restaurant is by Subway. There isn't much parking close enough by, and the district isn't one that warrants a leisurely stroll until Toronto Planners inject a little more neighbourhood imagination.

I love their dim sum. They have great shrimp dumplings, radish cake, all kinds of stuff. The place is clean, quiet, and smaller/ more serene than a regular chinese restaurant but the food is just as good. The selection is not as big as a big restaurant though... but it's good enough for me. They also have Thai and Chinese dishes for dinner menu.
