Meet the owner

When you walk into iGita, the sense of community is unmistakable. An expansive lounge area invites customers to relax on comfortable sofas before or after class, where they can absorb the zen surroundings – think abundant plants, a juice bar and rich-hued decor. Owners Maureen Vohora and Shawn Trickett certainly seem to have a firm understanding of their clients’ needs as well as that of the local community.  With that said, they make a point to welcome all yoga practitioners, from beginner level to seasoned.

“We’re here 14 to 16 hours every day,” explains Maureen. “Always meeting and greeting, having personal conversations with our clients, getting to know them. And we have so much going on, so people hang around and meet one another.”

The owners opened their first yoga studio in 2007 after closing a successful tae kwon do business. Maureen had already been teaching yoga for more than 10 years by that time, so her passion for the practice, along with an increase in demand for her classes, made the move from tae kwon do to yoga seem natural. They finally settled at their current location in Oakville’s bustling Kerr Village neighbourhood in 2014. The larger space allowed them to offer multiple studio rooms for a variety of classes.
