Devinder Kaur began her journey in yoga as many people do: as an IT consultant, she was looking for a way to help heal her body from 20 years of sitting at a computer. She was resistant and skeptical at first but her first yoga class created positive results immediately, which promoted her to continue growing her practice. She eventually completed a teacher training course to deepen her knowledge and it was during this training that she branched out and tried Kundalini yoga. “I really didn’t like it at all,” recalls Devinder, “because it highlighted all the things that I didn’t particularly want to see or look at about myself.”

Months later, she accidentally found herself in yet another Kundalini class. “I looked up and all the teachers were in white and the doors were locked,” Devinder chuckles. “I thought, ‘Oh no, I am trapped in a Kundalini class!’” Partway through the class, however, she found she was enjoying the practice and decided to stick with it. As a result, she found herself becoming calmer, happier and more healthy. “My husband said to me one day, ‘I don’t know what you are doing, but keep doing it!’”

In 2004, Devinder began her yoga teaching career. In 2008, after four years of trekking around Ottawa teaching at various locations, she decided to open her own studio called PranaShanti Yoga Centre.
