As I have lived on Eglinton Ave East for most of my life I must give a big ups and shout outs to the peeps behind Gramps and Elaine. Truly a mom and pop shop that have stood the test of time in this little shop tucked away on eglinton ave east. the neighbourhood has changed so much over the years and yet this place remains a top notch place for proper jamaican food. Ackee and salt fish with food is really nice here and cooked proper ( not too greasy or soggy ) the food with it is boiled to perfection. The rotis are large and filled with meat and only a little potatoe. But by far the real star of this place is the stewed peas served only on a friday. AMAZING!!! People who move out to pickering and ajax and whitby still make the drive into scarborough for some gramps and elaine food. True scarborough gem that will always remain a favourite of the west indians in the neighbourhood as well as all other cultures. Come one and come all to enjoy true authentic jamaican food.
This place is a hidden gem! This "mom & pop" store has been around for 20 years. The food is well seasoned & has a home made taste. Gramps is a cool & funny guy. The atmosphere is very laid back & tropical. The stewed dishes are the best I've had in Toronto. I travel 15 min. for the pleasure. I couldn't recommend this place more.
Best Jamiacan meal I ever had. Now I go back often.
Gramps and Elaine's cow foot is the best you will ever eat-I love their soups too -the only improvement would be if they would put more meat and dumplings because it's kinda sparce but the flavour rocks. As for the other dishes on the menu-you really can't go wrong-this restaurant has been around for over twenty years going strong-that should tell you something. BTW This is a Jamaican (West Indian) Take- out -Restaurant -not INDIAN lolz
These people have a good down to earth attitude & the food follows suit. There is real home cooking flavour in the food. I don't know but I think it's in the seasoning & preparation because I haven't had such flavourful steak or oxtail anywhere else. Also, not too spicy. Try the stewbeef roti, it's my fave. Have fun! PS. This is a Jamaican WEST Indian restaurant.
