This was a strange experience. The place is lovely. The service is slow, but pleasant. The menu looks great--which is somewhat confusing. The mussels and frites were split between my sister and I--I quite enjoyed them but thought the fries were too cold. She loved the fries but thought there was something off about the mussels. Our entrees were a strange split. The garden pizza was cool and chewy. The stuffed meatballs were lacking any serious mozza presence which was a big disappointment and the pasta had been cooked too long. On the other hand, the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the side vegetables were quite good. However, it *was* advertised as a peppered beef tenderloin and the pepper was not particularly present. The roasted pears that topped it were also cool. So, a confusing spread of dishes to be sure.
The meal started with a flat Keiths Red which was awful and tasted nothing like beer and got worse from there.The goat cheese in the salad tasted old and overcooked the lettuce in the salad was old and wilted the steak was completely overcooked and the service was terrible. I waited almost ten minutes before i was acknowledged and when i complained about the food was completely dimissed. Once I found out the server that was serving me was a manager I was sure I would never return.
ordered salmon and chicken benedicts, but the chicken I ordered showed up as chicken omelette, wrong order. waiter was very very slow to refill coffee, in fact had to ask for that. once bill was presented it took 12 minutes for the waiter to deal with it. I didn't make a fuss about my order thinking it would take a long time to correct. Must say the food was good. Just the service was slow.
I've been to Brownstone's several times now, and it's always a good experience. Friendly staff, and good food. Their brunch gets busy on Sundays, and deservedly so, but we were able to make a reservation the night before for our not-so-small party. The banana and Nutella pancakes were delicious, but topped with syrup, were a bit rich for my delicate stomach. Good fresh orange juice. The decor is lively and interesting, though sitting near the front door can be drafty in cool weather.
why would you offer a theatre menu and then skimp on presentation and quality. main was good but the apps and desert were terrible. it was embarrassing.
The mushroom starter was wonderful . The fish was good but the sweet potato fries were limp and tasteless. They could have been a day old The coffe and creme brûlée was good. My husband had a martini which he said was very well made Definitely will go back to try other items on the menu
A great little restaurant we visited with friends before going to a show. We were all quite impressed with the quality of the food and the service. Their dinner menu is also incredibly good value for money. This was the first time we visited, but it will be our regular dining spot before the theatre after this.
Very poor service. Waited 30 minutes for beverage and food order to be taken. No follow up from staff re dinner, dessert or coffee. We will not return.
I have been to Brownstone more than once, which is no surprise given how long it has been in the city. I had always remembered it being a good experience so it seemed like the natural choice. However, they have not been able to keep up with modern times or the theatre crowd. My parents and I went to this restaurant as it is adjacent to the Panasonic theatre, where we were seeing a show. Note we were there at 6pm for an 8pm show, so left ourselves time. We waited 10 minutes before our server even showed up to provide water or an hello. Once there, our server was extremely rude and ignored every question we asked him. I had to ask him multiple times if there was a charge to switch salads or change the cheese on my burger. I also asked about the so called winterlicious menu or the theatre menu, both which were appearing on the menu that morning, and was given a rude answer and look. Again, I am not sure if this server is hard of hearing, deaf or just surly, but the effect was unpleasant. Do not have things on your website or kindly explain to your patrons. After another 40 minutes and getting worried we would miss the show, our food finally arrived. It was ok but by that point, we were so hungry probably anything would have tasted good and we basically had to hoover our meals to make up time. Knowing we didn't want to wait forever for the bill to come as had been our experience, I asked the waiter for the bill. He ignored me. I asked another waiter who was much more pleasant and that seemed to do the trick. Both of them didn't seem to be concerned about the time as condescendingly told us where the theatre was. Thanks captain obvious, I know. How about serve the food on time and we wouldn't have to rush out or get stressed. The art is nice, but the rest of the restaurant needs work. It is cramped, drafty and the chairs were all cracked and peeling. I would not go back.
Well I am wondering why you would send this as the restaurant could not even acknowledge our reservation as they had no record of it. Lucky for us there was room for us, other than that we would have been very disappointed and ticked off. You really need to organize this system better with your restaurant as they mentioned this was not the first screw up
we were early for are table and they let us seat down that was nice. there was no one in there when we first got the that was a good thing .because the service was very slow getting are food,we ask for a spoon we had to gt up and go get one they were taking so long.the floor was not clean my feet were sticking to it.Salad was very not fresh,
The food was enormously disappointing. The appetizers were decent, but the risotto was mushy and soaked in fat, the fries were soggy, the steak was swimming in gravy, and the dessert tasted unsophisticatedly like Nesquik chocolate sauce. The waiters were working hard, but there was no pleasantry or effort at establishing any sort of personalized experience. The interior decor is nice. I imagine that if we hadn't gone for Winterlicious, the experience might have been tastier. We were really expecting better.
We made the reservation and showed up and they said they had no reservation for us. We waited 15mim and left because the 8 of us needed to catch a show so went elsewhere.
I understand that during WInterlicious, staff are rushed so the service was adequate under the circumstances. We asked for our desserts because we had theater tickets and rather than ask what we wanted, the server just plopped down chocolate mousse in front of both of us. The room was jammed with tables so tightly that people could barely walk between them. I expect this was to add more availability for reservations. Despite the lack of ambiance, the food was original and very good.
Food portions were small, I had the tiramisu for dessert and it was a square inch in size!
Terrible. We made a reservation which they would not honour. Gave us the runaround. Not honest about when we would be seated. Would never recommend this restaurant to anyone!!! Many restaurants in Toronto that treat their patrons better that this!!!

went for winterlicious lunch...waited 1.5hrs to be seated even with reservations. The team seemed completely unprepared for winterlicious service. They didn't acknowledge us as we waited by the front door, till we approached the servers ourselves. Then when we finally sat down, we didn't get any food for over 45 minutes. The food wasn't bad overall, but they ran out of 2 out of the 3 desserts.
To be fair, it was the first day of Winterlicious and the restaurant was very busy. With that said, the food wasn't particularly good and the service was terrible. The risotto was the worst I have ever had - it was bland and the consistency was somewhat watery. The crème brulé tasted good, but was warm and very soft/runny, suggesting it had been sitting out for a while. We waited a ridiculous amount of time to get our appetizers, watching as tables seated after us were already on to their main course. Our main courses were brought out a minute after the appetizer as well, which I was really unimpressed with. Adding to that, we had to remind our server 4 times about the dessert we ordered. Our sever was disorganized and seemed very scattered. Actually, all of the staff seemed that way; they were either idly standing around, looking unsure of what to do, or frantically going back and fourth with plates, etc. Again, I understand it could have been a situational issue related to Winterlicious, but it was really disappointing nonetheless.
Service slow. Brought the main and the appetizers at the same time as they forgot the appetizers. Food could have been warmer. Steak too well done. Servers were pleasant. Just seemed to be disorganized. Like the restaurant and was disappointed as it was my birthday.
It was New Years Eve and although, I had been there before a few years ago, it was all new to me again. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, the surroundings were pleasant and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend a trip to this establishment and plan to return again soon. My partner had never been there before and was quite impressed as well. Cheers !

This family-owned restaurant has been a Yonge Street landmark for over 15 years. The dining room received a funky revamp in 2012 (courtesy of the hit TV show Restaurant Takeover) and today the kitchen serves up a varied menu of crowd-pleasing fare. The lasagna features beef ragu, creamy béchamel sauce and a blend of mozzarella, parmesan and cottage cheese. The hearty dish is served with garlic crostini and Caesar salad on the side.
