What she gets: A gourmet sandwich on a signature Clafouti croissant to munch on in Trinity Bellwoods. Choose from a selection of delicate pastries, classy grocery items imported from France, Montreal bagels and one of the city’s best butter croissants at this beloved patisserie. Those with a hard-to-satisfy sweet tooth note: try the Queen West bakery’s signature Crookie, a croissant with Oreo cookies baked inside.
Clafouti has been making waves on West Queen West since it opened in 2003, most recently as the creator of the Crookie (a buttery croissant stuffed with Oreo cookies). You can buy into the hype if you want, but you may want to go traditional next time you’re there. This darling little French café bakes scrumptious tarts stuffed with an array of tasty seasonal fruits, including lemon, raspberry, lychee caramel, blueberry and cherry.
Clafouti is the perfect place to stop in for a late morning snack, if you’re in the neighbourhood. It’s a beautiful French bakery that sells out of its famed croissants early in the day, and if that’s the case, you can always try one of their other delightful French pastries.
