The Fran's tradition began more than 70 years ago by Buffalo, NY-native Francis (Fran) Deck. In 1918, Francis' older brother Greg opened Deco Refreshments, a modest dining establishment and the perfect place for Francis to debut Fran's. Soon, Buffalo had more than 50 Deco locations. Francis, along with his wife Ellen Jane sought to expand. They headed to Toronto where they opened their first Fran's location as a modest, ten-stool diner at Yonge and St. Clair. In its history, Fran's has become famous for several dishes, most notably the 'Banquet Burger'. Francis Deck created the world's first Banquet Burger in the 1940s - today, you might recognize the Banquet Burger by its modern name, the bacon cheeseburger!
