Meet the owner

Carlyle Jansen found her true calling at when she was in her late twenties. It was her sister’s bridal shower and Carlyle gifted her sister sex toys. When the gifts were opened, many of the female guests had questions about the toys and what exactly they were for. Carlyle recalls, “I answered all their questions and everyone started saying, ‘You should teach workshops.’”

Carlyle went on to teach and instruct workshops and coach couples and individuals before opening Good For Her, a sex-positive boutique and workshop centre located on Harbord just east of Bathurst, in 1997. A small overhanging sign sports the Good For Her name and logo: the orange silhouette of a woman throwing back her arms in ecstasy.

“We wanted a comfortable space to host workshops,” Carlyle explains. “So I thought, it’s time to open a store.”
