Decent wine selection
For many years, Messis on Harbord Street has been our 'go to' destination restaurant for special occasions, family celebrations and just a great meal. The restaurant has a casual elegance to it, dark rich colours and lit well enough so that you can see your food but still have a romantic or private dinner. The food is always great. The Caesar salad is probably the best I've ever had...garlicy, cheesy and one order is enough for two. Despite the recent price increases on the menu, Messis is still great value at about $25 for main courses but you can get pasta for about $20. Main courses are also incredible. The Veal Chop and Steak are always perfectly cooked to order but I suggest going with the garlic mashed potatoes despite what the chef suggests as a side. The halibut with shrimp is also a fantastically balanced main course. For desert, don't bother with the menu. Just get the white chocolate/blueberry strudel. Hot in the middle and served with vanilla ice cream. A perfect end to a perfect meal.
Spotty service, but just good enough. Appetizers and desserts were wonderful. Dinners were good, but not spectacular. Would definitely return. Great value (quality / price).
The best food in T.O. I can't wait to go back. Not only is the food great, but the portions are HUGE!!!
I wanted let people know that this restaurant is amazing. I have eaten there several times. The service is great, and the food is outstanding, and the ambience is romantic. The only review I have seen of this restaurant is very poor. However, I feel that someone must have had a vendetta for this restaurant because it is amazing. I will go back many more times. There wine list is impressive too, as my they carry my favorite wine which is Mitchell Grenache from a 2001 vintage.
