With the smell of roasted coffee beans, hut-like decorations and orange, red and brown colour schemes, it's no wonder people feel like they’re truly experiencing a little bit of Africa when they walk into Rendez-Vous. The restaurant is filled with Ethiopian art: paintings and photographs depicting the vast and vibrant culture the country and its people have to offer are on display as visitors relish the unique cuisine.
Staying true to its translation, Rendez-Vous is named after a famous spot in Ethiopia known as a meeting place where people come to socialize and have a good time. The Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant has been serving the East Toronto neighbourhood since its opening in 2001. Banchi Kinde, the owner at Rendez-Vous, took advantage of Toronto’s multicultural environment after moving to the city, deciding to offer a bit of her ethnic roots through its cuisine. “Ethiopia is very rich in culture. We are unique in the way we eat and in the way we take care of our guests,” she says.
Banchi’s passion for cooking and hosting comes from her mother, whom she always helped around the kitchen. Growing up in a big family, she was surrounded by relatives and a culture of cooking and hospitality, skills that became ingrained in her very early on. “Whenever I cooked, everyone loved it! That was a great motivation for me,” she says. “We really make sure our guests are satisfied. We take a lot of pride in that,” she adds.Read the story of Rendez-Vous Ethiopian and Eritrean Restaurant

This is the best Ethiopian food in town. I have been there several times and the service and the food was amazing. The owner is always there and she will help you select the food you want. The price for the food size is great,
Amazing food ,Great people
Valentine's Day dinner. Delicious food, efficient service, popular with Ethiopian crowd. Nice ambiance, but we literally sat next to another couple, who sat next to another couple where it felt like we were one large party as opposed to 3 separate tables. Not possible to have an intimate conversation with my boyfriend without the couple beside me over hearing. Will definitely go back, but not to have an intimate romantic dinner. Great value for money.
Excellent meal, first time for our kids eating Ethiopian and they loved it.
Excellent food, for two of us we had veggie plate and lamb. With "bread" it was more than enough and everything was tasty and staff all courteous and friendly. The only thing was despite having to reserve a table through YP, they had no record of it and they had to set up a table for us. Not sure if they check YP reservation so it may be better to call them to make a reservation.
The food was delicious I love it. The lights and the place is very nice. Service is good too. The only inconvenience I found was the music. It was too loud and I had to speak very loud to my friend. Other than that the place is very good
Fantastic as always! We'll be back!
Loved it, loved it, loved it.The best in town.
Excellent food. Really enjoyed. We ordered the collard greens one lentil one chicken stew spicy and lamp stew spicy. Loved the food. Basic place eclectic ambiance, reasonably priced. Service is fine just slow. But the idea is to relax and enjoy.
The food was very tasty and we had a combo of Vegan and Meat love everything ! It is very dark ambiance (light) , waitress was nice but overwelming with the place who was full and didn't seems to have enough waiters to take orders , service very slow and need to chase to waitress around if you need anything .
Delicious food, drinks and coffee. Wonderful atmosphere
Delicious Ethiopian food, lots of variety on the menu, with friendly service.
The service here is brutal. Our food took over an hour to prepare and when it arrived we were stunned. We received one drumstick with sauce at a cost of $13.99. The food was cold and the server did not even ask us once if we were enjoying our meal. I would never go back to this place and I am seriously in disbelief of the rating that this place got on YELP
The lone hostess / waitress / bartender on a Sunday seemed aloof. We wanted to order cocktails, but were told that she couldn't do that (I suppose she meant she didn't know how to mix cocktails, seeing as ordering beer wasn't an issue). Aside from that, minimal attention was paid to our table, long times between checking in on whether or not we were ready to order / pay, and just a general sense of not being wanted there anytime we spoke with the waitress. Perhaps she was overwhelmed on her own, I don't know, but the service definitely suffered because of it. I'm not sure I would go back.
Great first experience in an Ethiopian restaurant. Food was very flavourful and filling. The coffee was also great! Very friendly service and the price was right too. I have little to no knowledge of Ethiopian food, but the only thing I would change would be to serve the injera warm. Will definitely be back.
Really fun evening sampling Ethiopian cuisine. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Food deelish.
Rendez-vous exceeded my expectations last night. Excellent food, a welcoming atmosphere and friendly service. We'll definitely return!
Terrific Ethiopian food and attentive service. We'll be back!
Very welcoming! We told them it was the birthday of one of our party and they did bubbly and a Happy Birthday song. Very kind and unexpected. Great way to share a family meal.
Outstanding food and such pleasant, personal, gracious service. My friends and I had a wonderful time at Rendez-Vous. Can't wait to go back.
Food is good space bigger
A welcome addition to the Danforth/Coxwell dining scene!
- took a very long time to bring food to our table (30mins+)
Loved the food. The staff was friendly and eager to help us through our first experience. We will definitely do this again.
I love this restaurant... but unfortunately they didn't receive our reservation and 6 of us were squeezed at 4 person table. I would sat avoid going on the weekend. Otherwise it's an excellent restaurant with delicious food and friendly service
Lovely meal. Thank you
No complaints! Thanks!
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Service was great, but could have been better.
