The owner of SITAMAA Day Spa is a familiar face to many Toronto beauty enthusiasts. Vee Mistry, the British-born owner of Bay-Bloor’s SITAMAA, used to be a regular guest on CBC’s Steven & Chris, while working as an aesthetician in another Toronto day spa. After about two decades of experience in the beauty industry, Vee has managed to not only open her own spa but also become an influential voice in a city full of similar services.
The name SITAMAA is a marriage of two different meanings: “SITA,” the name of a Hindu goddess, represents three main principles: truth, love, and compassion. “We’re touching people, and working with people with real issues,” Vee explains. “We always aim to do treatments with love and compassion, and speak the truth through education on products.” “MAA” means mother, which she thought was also important to incorporate into the spa’s name. “Women wear so many hats, and I just look at us as amazing people, even if I do say so myself!”
And Vee does indeed have plenty on her plate. As a beauty expert for South Asian lifestyle publication Anokhi Magazine, she also works as a consultant for many day spas across Toronto to help educate other business owners on how to give clients the best possible treatments.
