It doesn’t have to be the middle of winter to appreciate the essential comfort and soft warmth of polar fleece, a notion that doesn’t escape Liz Heyland, owner of Snug as a Bug. This specialty store on Dundas Street West, named after the children’s clothing line Liz began in 1992, is a colourful little shop of wonderful, filled with clothing, toys, accessories and gifts for children — and some fun stuff for grown-ups, too.
But it didn’t start out that way. It all began with a line of baby clothes that Liz designed, manufactured and sold at craft fairs. As her clothing line grew in popularity, she moved it all into a warehouse-like facility in 1999, where she wholesaled her products to stores and sold to the public. In 2007, with a busy wholesale division and online presence, she took the plunge into retail and opened up Snug as a Bug at 3022 Dundas Street West in the Junction.
