Our goal is lofty: We hope to reconnect that part of Queen Street that's been lost in recent years, with a gathering place that provokes conversation, welcomes strangers and makes room for conflicting ideals.
Treat the lady of the hour to a day of shopping on Queen West, and before you start, fuel up at this boutique hotel at the foot of Beverley Street. If your mum likes gourmet Canadian classics like smoked salmon Benedicts, corned beef hash, lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes, done-right Caesars, and fresh-squeezed-orange-juice mimosas, you’ll be in good hands. Still taking reservations, The Beverley Hotel also hosts a gorgeous rooftop patio, which, if it’s open, is most definitely worth checking out while you’re there.
Heralded Hawthorne chef Eric Wood runs The Beverley’s kitchen, a contemporary Canadian industrial-style bistro tucked into the boutique hotel (named for its digs at the foot of Beverly Street on Queen Street West). Their lounge-y rooftop patio hosts white cushioned benches, sleek silver tables and lush palms that create an L.A.-meets-Miami vibe, appropriate since the hotel is a prime pick for TIFF-attending celebrities. The roof still hosts casual food options like salads and burgers, but my advice is to get fancy at the inside resto before heading up for a cocktail and some people watching on busy Queen Street below.
