Meet the owner

It was a passion for chocolate that led Paola to open The Candy Bar in 2013 after completing an entrepreneur program in the area. Starting her own business was a career change for Paola — she’d worked in commercial photography for many years before she decided to take the plunge. Her eye for aesthetically pleasing food products, combined with her love of chocolate, formed the foundation of The Candy Bar.

“I looked around the area and noticed it was missing a good old-fashioned candy shop. I really wanted something that had a small-town, boutique feeling with lots of colours and excitement,” explains Paola. “The Candy Bar is a family place, and it has a very fun and lively atmosphere.”

Providing customers with exceptional gourmet chocolate and other confections, The Candy Bar stocks local products and brands from around the world. “We bring in lots of international artisan chocolate and candy — from Italy, Vietnam, Holland, Japan and many other countries,” says Paola. “We pride ourselves on being able to provide our customers with products they can’t get anywhere else.” The shop also stocks gluten-free and vegan options.

    Our church was saying goodbye to a priest who was retiring. Paola helped to set him up with the best value gift basket for the budget we gave her, doing that on a very short notice actually. It was an excellent choice because she asked a lot of questions about the person to determine what to include so that the whole family can enjoy and share, including the kids.

    There is a very w...

    There is a very wide variety of candy available. I purchased a couple of chocolate bars from B.C. They were awful! Terrible mouthfeel - like eating wax, and they were expensive. One day as I was walking by I dropped in and got a small quantity of jujubes from the bulk bin. The price was almost four dollars. That was it. I haven't been back since and I won't be back. The staff is warm and friendly but the products are ridiculously overpriced and not that good.
