Worst Sushi worst Udon ever. Don't even have avocado in Dynamite maki, more than half of the sushi is rice. Sushi is extremely thin. I don't understand why in the world would Udon soup taste so sweet, as if the chef put the whole pack of sugar in it. And two little mushrooms? Are you guys just there to decorate the noodle and yet make it worse? There was no egg yolk in the egg. I do not understand the existence of this restaurant, the waiters are not Japanese, not even East Asian. Then at least play some Japanese music? But no, it was INDIAN MUSIC.
We went here for a birthday and made reservations specifically asking if they could provide us with a quiet spot in the restaurant. When we got there they placed us beside a group of rowdy students. Which was okay, but then they got our orders wrong. We asked for our sushi without sesame seeds and they agreed that that was possible. When we got our food it was covered in sesame seeds, which a member of our party was allergic to. We asked them to correct the order and they said we never asked for it without sesame seeds. She then said that we should have said that when ordering. After eventually agreeing to fix it, the very rude waitstaff ignored us for the duration of our stay. Never going back!
Hikari is a gastronomical gem housed in a two story Victorian house in downtown Windsor, it is clean, quiet, and the décor is traditional Japanese with a splash of a modern fusion. Seating is available for any number of patrons, from a single diner at the Sushi Bar, to large groups in designated rooms. And, for the daring, there is also traditional Japanese seating available. The proprietors, Theresa and Richard, mingle freely and are both friendly and accommodating. The food is of unparalleled quality in the downtown, and is a must-stop for the Serious Sushi Aficionado. The sushi, nigiri and maki, is prepared with only the freshest ingredients and presented with the serious perfection rarely found outside Japan. They have a full but focused menu listing everything from exquisitely tasting traditional Japanese appetizers to Asian Inspired Entrée's. If you want the best stir-fried vegetable dish in Essex County, it's not on the menu, you have to ask for the Stir-Fry that 'T' orders………………….…lol. A wonderful destination for either a night out, a family dinner, or a party of many, it's well worth the effort to find this place, as it always strives for perfection.
Sushi was extremely fresh. Came in on a friday night and although it was busy the service was good. We sat in the room on the floor and it was so beautiful. The negimaki is soooo delicious with its sweet sauce. Definitely coming back.
the sea weed salad the double double roll and the california rolls are the best also we tried the shrimp tempora and was great too i will go back again and again
Horrible meal, with a dash of hair. I was not happy with the quality of food here. When i made the owner aware I was not happy with the meal she told me she don't care and not to come here again. Pretty rude if you ask me. So i would not recommend it.
Hikari is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Windsor! it has expensive but very tasty and immaculately prepared sushi. we often spend a lot of money there but we also always leave happy and full. while i love sushi, i adore their tempura udon even more. it comes to you piping hot with lightly battered crispy tempura shrimp and veggies on the side. after shaking in some of the spice they provide, the broth has a bit of spice and screams to be completely drained (which i do!). the decor of the restaurant is pretty, with the interior looking way better than the exterior. their dinnerware is simple yet modern. however i have noticed it's a bit chipped so i'd be happier if they replaced it. a word of advice to them: bring in some better Japanese desserts and they would be spectacular. i would dine there every chance i had if they offered mochi ice cream. my only other complaint is their hours of operation. many a time, my friends and i have come craving sushi or udon only to find them closed (in between lunch and dinner times). i've been there 3 times and enjoyed every meal. i can't wait for our next visit!
What a wonderful little spot. Decor was very nice and wait staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was excellent. I am not a connoisseur of fine sushi but do have the opportunity to dine out frequently. There was a wide variety to choose from and I can't wait to return and bring everyone I know !!!!!!!!!! Just great.
Husband loves the sushi. Best in WIndsor we've tried. Great selection. I don't eat sushi, but the menu included many options for non-sushi eaters. Noodles were great. My chicken with black bean sauce was great. The soft shell crab appetizer was great too. Oh, the dessert... it was so good. Fried bananas w/ green tea, tempura vanilla, and mango ice cream. Overall love the restaurant. I'll be nudging my husband to take us there often. Atmosphere is really lovely. Very friendly, and calm.
I love this restarant. By far it has the best sushi in Windsor ever! I love their new menu. It offers much more variety at a great affordable price. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is excellent!
Best sushi in Windsor, service has been lacking of late. We've been loyal customers of Hikari for the last 4 years often going every other weekend. Recent updates to the restaurant are excellent and the new menu (updated last week) is busy with lots of new additions. With all of that has come more business. We are very happy for Theresa and her staff. However, the new business has the wait staff slightly overwhelmed and for the last 2 trips we had unnecessary waits to have our order taken and our bill given to us. Also, our loyalty used to see us getting miso soup and salad free every other visit. Now we have to order it.... and pay for it. Booo! All good things must come to an end I guess. :) Despite recent service issues we will be back again soon as the food and atmosphere are too good to pass up.
In all, the sushi is very good but price is a little high.
The people where extremely friendly and accomodating. They provided us with a high chair for our daughter and took us without reservations. The food was fresh and delicious. Don't let the outside fool you, the inside is beautiful, clean and has great positive energy.
The waitress was very helpful in suggesting the food I was looking for. She smiled lots and was very attentive. Her daughter(soooo cute)did her homework on the sushi bar and after she was done, wiped the whole counter clean! The atmosphere was serene...clean, and classy. The food was very good..the Tempura scrumptious, the sushi awesome..the salad served with a classic Japanese orange and carrot salsa, yum. My green tea was topped up 3 times during my meal without asking. I had a very pleasant conversation with Theresa (the waitress) afterward....I really felt welcome and enjoyed the restaurant..I will definitely dine there again if I come back to Windsor. I wish we had this kind of place way up north where I'm from!
The service was friendly and the food was excellent!
best food best ambiance best service I just love this place
By far the best sushi I've EVER had....Windsor's hidden jewel...
I found the atmosphere to be very warm and inviting. The service was excellent and the waitress was friendly.
Everytime my friends and I go to hikari, it's the greatest meal that we've ever had. This place just keeps out-doing itself night in and night out with amazing selection and choices, and flawless service.
