With Bonlook, siblings Sophie and Louis-Félix Boulanger are on a mission: to disrupt the prescription glasses industry and provide consumers with stylish, high-quality and low-cost frames and lenses.

"The traditional business models in this industry are outdated. They haven’t followed along the technological revolution. It’s an industry ripe for disruption, because it’s rather opaque, but once one takes a good look at it, it’s pretty clear that it could evolve," Sophie says of her motivations.

Bonlook aims to become a sort of Zara, but for the prescription glasses industry: a vertically integrated company that designs, manufactures and markets its own products, thus enjoying increased agility, and decreased costs.

How Bonlook works is rather simple: clients need to have a valid prescription from an optometrist, which needs to have been issued within the past two years. They can then choose their favourite style of frames and try them on virtually or in Bonlook’s physical showroom. When their decision is made, they order their pair. "We really strive to simplify the whole process. Clients don’t even need to have their prescription on hand – we’ll call their optometrist to validate the whole thing," Sophie points out.
