J`Aime Coiffure

As a young woman, Melita Campellone knew she had a flair for hair and fashion. One day, a hairstylist with a striking hairdo outside a hip downtown salon caught her eye and that night her decision was made. Stylist classes began soon after.

Her instincts paid off and success came quickly: “I was so eager to be serving clients that I acted older and more experienced than I was. I went to the salon where I’d seen the woman with the hairdo. I spoke to the owner and managed to convince him to give me a chance.” When clients called back to book appointments with her, the owner gave her a permanent spot. Her talent and drive led her straight to management, and soon after, another opportunity came knocking. She became a KMS master trainer and an artistic team member, travelling around Canada to coach hairstylists in perfecting their skills.

In 2009, she opened J’Aime Coiffure with her life partner, Geoffroy Fillion, a welder by trade who designed, built and crafted the salon’s interior from start to finish. “We wanted to create a salon people would be drawn to that was about providing an extraordinary level of quality and service,” Melita says. The name came from GM (for Geoffroy and Melita), the username the couple used when playing video games. “It took on a whole new meaning,” says Melita. “J’Aime is about our love of hair and everything beautiful. Our guests know it and feel it because we provide them with what we believe are the best products and tools out there.”
