Booked Easter meal at 3pm only to find out they only open at 5pm. Very disappointing!
The entrance is hidden and small. You take the stairs up and open an old wooden door to enter a beautiful and elegant old-fashioned dining room. Live guitar plays intermittently in the background with some Portuguese songs. We left our wine and food choices to our waiter, and we were not disappointed. The bottle of Portuguese Dona Maria was quite flavourful and fresh. The potato and kale soupe was just lovely. The seafood platter (which must be the Portuguese version of the paella) was very generous with everything from a whole lobster to mussels. While not spicy, it had no fishy smell to it at all. The deserts were as delightful. We left very happy.
Had a very nice evening at Solmar, food was excellent and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend

Both menus from restaurants Sauvagine and Solomar were available 💕 Service very good… menu items well explained.. Water filled our glasses, bread bowl replaced, and dirty plates were taken away so efficiently! Plates arrived same time, all warm or hot… tasty and pretty… Drinks a little weak…. But ok Family from Boston wanted French cuisine but Portuguese also 👍 to try. They were happy to have both!!!

Great find in old Montreal. Good food, beautiful setting, friendly and accommodating service. It was like eating in your friendly and reliable neighborhood restaurant where they’d known you forever. Highly recommended.

From Torornto I specifically brought my girlfirend here for dinner and was beyond disappointed. First to find out that the second floor was closed and second the way the waiter spoke to her when she provided feedback about the meal. Don't ask if eveything was ok if you don't want to hear the truth. She provided honest feedback and that should be brought back to the chef. Interesing that we heard another table complain that the meat was rare not medium rare as ordered.

The first waiter is very rude! He’s a bald man. My husband was checking some messages on his cell phone and the waiter asked if he would continue on the phone or would place the order. My meal ia very dry for a cod. I do not recommend this place

Excellent meal and service. However the booking service indicates this is the restaurant with the live music and this is disinformation, - there is no live music.

Delicious food, excellent service. The port was amazing. We have a weakness for drinks that get set on fire, so we especially loved the cafe flambe.

An excellent restaurant. Very good foods,. My wife loved the grilled sardines, and I loved the Dorade. Very good service provided by the charming husband and wife team who own the place. We wish we lived in Toronto, and not as far away as Virginia, so that we could go to the Casa Solmar regularly.

The atmosphere was cozy and romantic. We both enjoyed the food: the grilled octopus, squid,& prawns was delicious, however, the prawns were overcooked. For dessert, we chose the poached pear in port wine sauce and that was so good that I wanted more of the sauce. Service could've been better as we had to request the bread when dinner was nearly finished, took a long time for drinks to arrive, and they charge FIVE dollars for a bottle of still water, they only gave a choice of still or sparkling.

Casa Solmar is a very friendly family run restaurant, we can thoroughly recommend the seafood dishes. It is very popular and as the food is freshly cooked it took a while to be served but definitely worth waiting for.

The food was fresh and delicious! The menu was outstanding with so many choices. I had the octopus and the cod fish. It's hard to find those choices in restaurants. The desserts were beautiful too. We had the cheese plate with some port and the baked pear. Both exceptional.

An institution since 1972, Solmar restaurant serves Portuguese cuisine made with Quebec ingredients. Of course, fish and seafood are featured, but you may prefer Portuguese tapas or Portuguese-style filet mignon. To accompany your meal, their wine cellar offers a wide selection of Portos and wines. Every Friday and Saturday night, a guitarist accompanies a singer, who most often sings fado. The artists change every week but their music always creates an elegant, romantic atmosphere, which, with the help of your meal, will transport you to the seaside in Portugal. Note that the restaurant has a private room.

Stone walls and beautiful wood paneling add to the warm, intimate décor that is appropriate for all types of special events. Sunday through Thursday, the restaurant can accommodate evening groups of up to 100 people. As a fixture on the Montréal jazz scene, Modavie hosts live music performances nightly to complement the great food and drink.

At its current location since 1979, in a two-century-old building in Old Montréal, the dining establishment focuses on fish and other seafood, with mystical fado performances on weekends adding to the atmosphere. La Sauvagine, on the ground floor, offers market-fresh cuisine and specializes in Québec game. A wraparound outdoor terrace is accessible to patrons of both restaurants.
