Vast improvement over past incarnation of Bistro
Very happy to see the Bistro back. Nice job with the decor. Food was very good and our server was very pleasant and professional. We will be back.
The jazz trio was way too loud downstairs. We couldn't carry on a conversation so we moved upstairs but it was very warm! Our server was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. Although the mussels did not have enough broth they were tasty. The short ribs, burger, salmon tartar, and salads were delicious. And the banana chocolate creme brûlée was really good!
We have been customers since the days the restaurant was called Le Daufin. The Bistro has been up ad down ever since Now it is back up there. The new décor is beautiful, soft colors, and warming. The food was sensational as was the service. We wish Jay and staff all the best Rick & Joanne
It's hard rating just soup and salad but both were delicious. Soup could have been a bit hotter but delicious anyway.
So pleased that the Bistro on the Avenue is back with very good food. My friend and I both had tuna tartare. It was excellent. And it's nice to have a choice between a full portion or smaller portion. A greatly appreciated option for me. The previous week I had the small portion of the tuna tartare, but chose the full portion this time. The service was attentive, efficient and friendly. And the music was an addition to the ambience instead being a a wall of noise as it is in too many restaurants. I will be back and look forward to enjoying more meals there. Just one suggestion....a bit more colour in the decor...which I assume will be happening when the interior decorating is complete.
We asked to have our salads and main courses brought out at the same time. This did not happen. Our waiter largely ignored us, and brought me the wrong meal. By the time, he asked us how the meal was, I had already eaten most of my meal. The service was very poor and I was not impressed, and it was not overly busy.
We are visiting from the U.S.. This was our second visit to the restaurant and the food was quite good both times. The service was friendly, upbeat, and efficient. We don't know the name of our server, a young man who was doubling as bartender for us, but he was delightful and understanding when our friend managed to spill his beer on the table and on me. He was attentive and quickly cleaned the mess and supplied our friend with a replacement. The manager circulated and asked how we were enjoying the meal. I would recommend the Bistro on the Avenue wholeheartedly. Jazz duo who played during our meal was a nice extra and the volume was loud enough to enjoy but soft enough that we could carry on a conversation without shouting.
The service and atmosphere were very warm and friendly. The food was delicious.
The food was just average. Service was poor. There were two servers but they often passed by the table without asking how our meal was or whether we needed anything. I had to ask for the bill three times!
Although I liked the menu you had before too, the new one is great.
Bistro on the Avenue has undergone many incarnations over the years, some more successful than others. Today's Bistro is a warm, friendly restaurant with very good - and affordable - traditional bistro food and great service. The French onion soup and the fresh Atlantic salmon are customer favourites.View this Smart List
