Big Mommas west Indian food is one of the wurst I have tasted. It’s always dried out and burnt with no flavour. The curry dishes taste awful. And like I said the jerk and oxtail is so dried out and has no flavour. The atmosphere is terrible.
Amazing soul food and great atmosphere! I’ve been going here for years and it’s one of my all time favourites. Perfect amount of spice and oxtail done right! Amazing value and friendly service that never disappoints.

Big Momma's Soul Food is Wicked...just reminded me of both Kingston Jamaica and Brixton...food reminded me of the best times. Pure tunes give off such a chilled vibe and Dave is pure kriss....manz serves up a wicked pattie...gonna hit his chicken and rice next...Recommend honest food and honest love 10/10...food is so good even the coconuts cry love!
It is great to find Caribbean soul north of the big smoke/Hogtown...and the moment you set eyes on Big Momma's, you see an inviting, colourful place that could be on the islands...and very friendly Dave & his clan serve up fine delicious jerk and curried meals, along with traditional beverages, and if you are lucky, Big Momma's down-home ginger snaps. You could settle for a pattie on the run, but you'd be missin' great home cookin' maaaahn !!!
Love Big Mommas! I've been there numerous times and I always receive exceptional food AND service. Dave, the owner, is such a warm, welcoming person. Love going, and will definitely go again!

This is the second time I've been here and it's absolutely fantastic, the food is of unmatched authenticity, quality and taste. By far the best *Jamaican* food I've had in/around the GTA Area, and even better than most of the Jamaican food I had in Jamaica. Dollar for dollar you will not find better carribean food. Pay attention though; it is jamaican cuisine, and there is a substantial difference between trinidadian/bajan/jamaican/other carribean cuisine even between the same thing. One poster below complained about the Jerk....he describe a different sort of jerk. Not all jerk is equal, but this is the best.
Lovely texture, fall off the bone tender, well cooked and oodles of flavour with sweet carribean undertones to everything. Loved it the first time, loved it this time.
Service was impeccable as well. The parking lot is my only pet peeve, as it is it needs a fair bit of repairing done, so does the exterior paint, but then again, you don't come here for the decor, you come for the fantastic food!

I see this tiny out of the way caribbean place......decided to go and give it a try.
Ordered Jerk Pork with rice and beans.
The guy behind the counter was real nice and friendly, very courteous.
I saw him put a scoop of rice in the container....ok....but then I saw him fishing around in a pan of what looked like overcooked, stringy, sloppy roast beef!!
The jerk pork I have come to love does not swim in a gravy/liquid/soup......
The stuff I am in love with hangs on a hook behind a glass display, and is taken down when you order......the lady takes a huge cleaver and hacks and chops about 1/2 pound of big solid chunks of well seasoned pork off.
Big mommas stuff was NOTHING like the other.
It was as if this stuff had been cooked forever in a pot of water........all sloppy and soft, like spaghetti!
Even though dave behind the counter said if you don't like it, call him and let him know, I won't bother.......I will stick with a little place in North York........(cheaper too!)

Have been here a few times as have other friends. The jerk chicken is moist and flavour full and the rice is a nice compliment. Make sure you ask the owner to add some of the gravy from the chicken to the rice. The roti is delicious but I suggest if you order take out, you heat it up in the oven to reduce the liquid levels as some find it runny.
Service is great and friendly, although I havnt yet met Big Momma.

Big Momma's Soul is one of the best place you can eat because you know the food is delicious and the owners are awesome people. They are very friendly and make you feel welcome every time you go there. The conversation is great and it is the kind of place you just want to keep going to.

Wicked food, you can't get any more authenic than this. The staff are very friendly and really make you feel welcome. Plus you get to watch a big screen satellite tv while you eat. What more could you ask for?
i have had the best jerk chicken and pork in Scarborough, this was by far the worst. the meat was bland. i ordered the goat dinner and had the same result, i was given literally 4 small pieces of meat over a lot of unflavourful rice. i am assuming that because there is nothing around here with the good stuff, people just settle for this. this was my second visit, hoping that the food had improved. Never again.
