Choosing a good dayhome/daycare is one of the hardest things a parent can do (it's often very hard leaving your little one in a new environment). Both my husband and I are working professionals so when the time came to choose a daycare we searched for many months (I literally asked every person I knew for recommendations). We choose Angel Falls Daycare for many reasons. The owners are fantastic people who treat the children as if they were their own. Our son started at Angel Falls when he was 10 months (he is now just shy of 3). He feels like Dedis and Manuel are his grandparents and they treat him as such. Dedis is committed to teaching, she has a Masters in Education from her home country of Venezuela and it shows in the activities and learning experiences our son has everyday. On a daily basis our little guy comes home with wonderful art projects, and has learned something new from reciting the alphabet in Spanish and English to counting in both languages (and he’s even learning to share!). The kids do yoga, focus on themes like the ocean, the planets, countries, and make baked goods etc. The owners bake homemade cakes for birthdays and they have huge seasonal celebrations where parents are invited to join in the festivities. Santa even showed up this Christmas baring presents for all the kids. Montessori is not for every family but for our son and the many children that have been with Dedis and Manuel (some for over three years), I would say Angel Falls ranks as one of the top Whitehorse daycares. We feel so very lucky that such a fantastic daycare exists in Whitehorse.Read more
Four steps to finding childcare services in Faro YT
The confirmation is in: the stork will be flying overhead in a few months. Quick! It’s time to get looking for childcare services. That’s no joke; your return to work will come fast enough, and daycare waiting lists are long in Faro YT.
Step one: Listen Word of mouth is always a good starting point. If you have friends who already have children in childcare services, ask them how they found their babysitter or daycare centre. Get several points of view so you can make a list of all the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of child care provider.
Step two: Browse the Internet and newspapers A search on your provincial government’s family services website may turn up a list of regulated childcare services in Faro YT. You can also find information on their website about financial assistance for child care. Whether regulated or not, home daycares sometimes advertise in newspapers or on community websites providing information on available space.
Step three: Visit See if it’s possible to visit the daycares or home child care facilities you’re considering. Ask lots of questions and gather information about their policies on the following things:
Staff training
Emergency care plans
Hygiene and cleanliness
Food and allergies
Hours of operation
Accessibility for children with special needs
Late pick-up policy
Step four: Register Once you’ve made the rounds of the childcare services available in Faro YT, it’s time to pick the ones you like best and put your name on their waiting lists. Depending on the situation in your area, it may be a good idea to put your name on several lists. In the meantime, make the most of your pregnancy to get ready and be sure to enjoy every precious minute at home with your baby.
