Clinical, Theatrical and Fashionable Wigs in Calgary

Brenda Moffat seems to have been born to do good in the world. With a firefighter for a brother, two nurses for sisters and a veterinarian parent, things would seem amiss if Brenda herself weren't helping the community. Her specialty? “Wigs for every style: clinical, theatrical, fashionable,” she says. Brenda’s first sold a wig in 1997 to a client suffering from alopecia. She’s been in love with the field ever since. Originally, she had a salon called Hair Sensations in BC before moving to Calgary and opening a new salon in 2007. The name, Georgios 635 Salon, hails from Brenda's previous business, which was located at 635 George Street.

Brenda volunteers regularly for the Canadian Cancer Society’s wig bank where she washes, sorts, cuts and revitalizes their wigs. It’s clear that she has a knack for helping those who are suffering hair loss from palliative care. “I’m able to bring the confidence back to the woman behind the hair,” she says with pride. "I put smiles on their faces and take away the nervous, insecure, sick-to-the-stomach feeling. I fit them with the tools they need to look their best when they’re feeling their worst.”

Professional, High-Quality Wigs

Brenda has a keen understanding of what women go through when they start having troubles with their hair. “Nobody knows what to do with their hair,” she explains. “And when you don’t have any, it’s even more complicated.” She says that women come in “shaking like a leaf” and “burning up with anxiety,” but are changed completely at the end of their two- or three-hour appointments. “When they’re leaving, I go to shake their hands, and they say ‘no, no, no’ and give me a hug,” says Brenda.

Her clients are comfortable because Brenda is a professional. Among her many accomplishments, she’s a member of the Cosmetologist’s Association for both BC and Alberta and has been nominated for a Small Business Ethics award by the Better Business Bureau. Brenda jokingly says she has “enough licenses to intimidate anybody.” She’s also done work for numerous theatre productions and even the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Dreamcatcher. But even with her impressive resume, “intimidating” is probably the last word you’d use to describe her.

Heartfelt Hair

Georgios 635 Salon offers a huge range of hair and wig treatments and options. From full prostheses to hair filler, men’s toupees, or wigs that have regular haircuts to Brazilian blowouts and perms. Brenda is eager to talk about the quality of her wigs. “It’s Hollywood undetectable,” she says. She also wants to dispel anxiety. “I’m building self-esteem and confidence. If you and I are out for wings and wine, nobody is looking at your hair. I’m looking at your face or I’m looking at your eyebrows.”
