The Taste of Napoli in Calgary

Pasquale Stringile was born to manage a restaurant. In the industry since 1974, he bought La Piccola Napoli from its previous owner in 2006. He decided to keep the name, which means “the little city of Napoli”, because Pasquale and the previous owner hailed from the same small town outside of Naples. He now runs the restaurant with his partner, head chef Mike Soch, who is another restaurant veteran with many years of experience. The duo serve up authentic Italian cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood and perfectly prepared veal. With so many years of management and culinary experience between them, Pasquale says that being a business owner was easy. “We just wanted to make it better,” he says.

Italian Favourites

Choosing from the menu at La Piccola Napoli is a unique challenge because everything sounds amazing. The restaurant features 14 varieties of homemade pasta and 10 incredible veal dishes. Pasquale says that one of their most popular dishes is the Linguine Pescatore, a seafood pasta with spicy tomato sauce. If you're not into fish, another bestseller is the Medaglioni (baked pasta stuffed with veal and ricotta cheese). There are also dishes featuring chicken, steak, lamb and pork. And last, but certainly not least, there's dessert. “People tell us we make the best tiramisu in the city,” Pasquale says proudly.

With so many choices, it’s no wonder the restaurant has such a loyal clientele. “90 percent of our customers are repeating customers,” explains Pasquale. “Our customers know us by our first names as well… Customers make a reservation at 'the La Piccola’, but they tell their friends that they’re ‘going to see Pasquale’ or 'going over to Pasquale and Mike's place'.”

Grateful for Success

Pasquale loves his job and he’s incredibly grateful for his success. “We go out of our way to please our customers,” he says. “Some people have gluten allergies or a garlic intolerance, and we make dishes to accommodate them. If it weren’t for them we wouldn’t be here.” Pasquale also makes frequent donations to the Calgary Firefighters Association and the city’s annual Mother’s Day Run.

“All of our food is made with love,” Pasquale says. “I’ve been in this business for many years. I love what I do.” His customers love what he does as well and return often for the authentic Italian cuisine and genuine service at La Piccola Napoli.
