Tanning and Esthetics in One Place

In 2011, Jodi Bendsfeld was a stay-at-home mom looking for a business to run when she chose the tanning industry and a place in Midnapore called Tahiti Tans. The shift to business owner has had is challenges, but Jodi continues to persevere. “Each day is an amazing learning experience," she says. "I’ve just never given up.”

When she realized the tanning industry was changing, Jodi knew she would have to adjust by adding more spa services to Tahiti Tans. In order to make that change she enrolled in classes to become an esthetician. “I really enjoy being an esthetician," she says. "It's more personable. I get to be one-on-one with my clients and I enjoy that.”

Now Tahiti Tans offers full esthetic services including waxing, manicures, pedicures and eyelash extensions, and the new additions have been a hit with Jodi's clients. “Overall the clients like the changes. It has been busy and is getting busier each year, so I feel we’re right on track," notes Jodi.

Educated Estheticians

As Jodi demonstrated, education is a large part of what makes Tahiti Tans successful. Every staff member is certified and stays up-to-date on the latest trends in esthetics. “We’re always educating ourselves,” says Jodi. “We’re in constant communication with the schools and if we have a difficult case we can call our school to get advice. We love updating ourselves and I think that will keep us ahead of other salons.”

Customer service also sets Tahiti Tans apart from their competitors. Don’t be surprised if the friendly, personable staff give you a hug when you come in. They are accommodating and eager to help educate people on how to maintain healthy skin and a healthy body. “Customer service is important, especially if someone is having a rough day and then they come here," says Jodi. "You can feel their energy shift...that ‘aaaaah’ is always a nice thing to hear because they’re relaxed. They come in uptight or stressed out, and they leave feeling they can take on the rest of the day.”

Acne Treatments

Tahiti Tans specializes in microdermabrasion and acne treatments. “We can teach people how to control acne and use the products that are right for them,” says Jodi. The staff try to put clients at ease about potential blemishes; the experienced and knowledgeable estheticians advise clients or adjust treatments when necessary. “Your skin changes every four months, so it’s nice to have your esthetician checking on you," explains Jodi. "It’s ok to have a skin condition because we can help. We can fix it and we can control it.”
