A Unique Gastown Furniture Store

“As you’re looking into the store from outside, the first thing you’re going to see is a really cute, pink French bistro set,” says Linda Levy, owner of Vancouver’s L’Atelier Home furniture store. "You walk in, it smells amazing. We’ve got lots of candles everywhere and we’ve always got some interesting music, whether it’s some old French music with Edith Piaf playing in the background or some kind of new, chill house music.”

This diversity of style is exactly how Linda has designed her business. Rather than fitting into any one category neatly, it occupies several spaces across the design spectrum. In addition to custom-made new furniture and decor items, L’Atelier Home also offers the unique service of upcycling existing furnishings, breathing new creative life into quality one-of-a-kind pieces. On the hunt for a specific vintage item? Linda and her team will not only find it for you, they'll work with your vision to expertly and beautifully customize it.

Combining a Love for Vancouver with a Love for Design

Many business owners find themselves compromising on one or two crucial areas in how they run their shop, whether it’s location, merchandise or market. But for Linda, she feels like she’s won the lottery.

“It was time to bring two loves together,” Linda says of her decision to move back home to Vancouver after spending some time overseas. “I love Vancouver, so I decided to bring my passion and create something.” She feels fortunate to be back in a city she grew up in and loves, working in a job that makes her feel fulfilled every day, and interacting with the community that’s fueled her creative desires.

It took a while for Linda to arrive at where she is today, as L’Atelier Home started off as just a hobby. She began reupholstering furniture on her own as best she could, both for herself and her friends. The positive feedback continued to accumulate, but it took over eight years before Linda felt she was on strong enough footing to open her current store. Once she did, though, she knew she had found her groove and there was no looking back.

Tailor-made Furniture to Suit Your Personality

Linda’s business philosophy at L’Atelier Home is centred on just two words: quality and affordability.

Her goal, regardless of whether people drop in to purchase a pack of candles or shop for a full living room set, is to ensure that everyone walks out the door with something they can’t find elsewhere and that will last for a long time. This is why she’s more than happy to spend an hour chatting with you, going over different catalogues and visualizing how pieces will look in your home.

Linda wants everyone to have the home of their dreams, and that means the full treatment: accepting emailed pictures of the rooms to be filled, having clients come in to discuss all the details and possibly even an in-home visit by Linda. Whatever your dream furnishings look like – a neutral contemporary armchair with clean lines or a vintage couch upholstered in bright fuchsia velvet with gold trim – Linda can, and will, help you make them a reality.
