Toronto, Meet Booyah

Booyah Inc. is a cool and quirky ice cream parlour located on Vaughan Road just south of St. Clair Avenue. With a cult following of Instagram foodies and one-of-a-kind recipes that are sure to impress, this little frozen treats shop is making big waves across the city.

Born in the spring of 2015, this family operation is managed by Western University grad Blair Mincer. He oversees Booyah’s day-to-day operations with his parents and sister. In fact, you’re guaranteed to bump into one of them while you’re in for a treat. “One of us will always be here,” confirms Blair. “We’re very hands-on and we love interacting with our customers. Everybody chips in.”

Booyah is a little oasis on Vaughan, where condos, busy St. Clair shops, restaurants and residential streets all seem to meet. The bright neon red sign signals a changing neighbourhood and brings downtown food stylists midtown. “We’re trying to be a destination,” explains Blair. During its second summer, Booyah saw a serious uptick in business, with customers finding them on social media and through word of mouth. The shop is modern and neat, with minimal seating inside and wooden benches out front. There’s often a line, but don’t worry, it moves fast.

Booyah’s cookie options are gooey, sweet and oh-so-good, with options like oatmeal, chocolate chip, butterscotch toffee and gluten-free chocolate chip.
While Booyah has some fancy ice cream creations, they also have the standards, like ice cream in cups and cones, soft serves and tasty ice cream sandwiches.

The Goods

If there’s one thing that sets Booyah apart, it’s the incredible variety and options of frozen treats. They have 30 flavours of Kawartha Dairy and Ed’s Real Scoop. They bake cookies, press waffle cones, spin soft serves, and blend smoothies and milkshakes. There are also gluten-free and vegan options, including dairy-free scoops. Plus, they have a selection of coffee, tea and specialty treats, like sweet pockets, and ice cream sandwiches and tacos.

The Booyah tacos are one-of-a-kind. A waffle cone is moulded into a taco shape, with the edges dipped in chocolate and decorated with sprinkles. Customers can fill their taco with up to three scoops and load up on toppings like whipped cream, sprinkles and M&Ms.

The sweet pocket is a fresh cinnamon or sweet bun, spread with your choice of marshmallow or Nutella and a scoop of ice cream. A special machine reseals the bun and heats it up so the outside is warm and crisp, while the inside is delightfully cold. It’s a winning combination served in a totally finger-friendly way.

There’s the standards, too, like ice cream in cups and cones, soft serves and tasty ice cream sandwiches. You can get a whole sandwich with your choice of two cookies, or do half a sandwich with one cookie. Booyah’s cookie options are gooey, sweet and oh-so-good, with options like oatmeal, chocolate chip, butterscotch toffee and gluten-free chocolate chip. These tasty delights are baked fresh in-house and are worth trying on their own.

Upping the Ice Cream Game

Booyah is also available for catering. You can book them for your next corporate event or party and have an ice cream fiesta. They can assemble ice cream sandwich platters or come onsite with custom sandwiches, sweet pockets and tacos made fresh out of their cart.

As for growth, Blair is dreaming of a bigger space to match his ice cream passion. “It’s long hours and late nights, but it’s a lot of fun,” he raves. “When I was at school, I was quiet and kept to myself. This has forced me to come out of my shell.” At Booyah, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome, a decadent treat and some Instagram-worthy pictures.
