Finding Community

Back in 1996, when Dr. Ran Midroni was commuting to work in Newmarket every day, he wasn't completely fulfilled. He loved practicing dentistry but living so far from where he worked was taking its toll. It wasn’t so much the distance that was the problem but, rather, the feeling of living two lives. “I wanted to work and live in the same area," says Dr. Midroni, who realized that servicing the community you live in has real value for everyone.

So he knocked on the door of a dental office near his home on Eglinton West between Avenue and Bathurst and asked the dentist working there if he’d consider renting out space. He was well-respected in the neighbourhood and, Dr. Midroni recalls, "he’d had lots of offers and turned them down, but somehow, we connected."

With not a single patient of his own, the new dentist on the block rented the back room, printed flyers and handed them out in the area. The good old-fashioned publicity worked. In just four years, he was up to 300 patients and his practice was growing so fast, it was time to move.

That Small-Town Feel

It felt like fate when Dr. Midroni found 1,600 square feet of available space, enough for a large reception area and a long hallway leading to four separate treatment rooms, just 10 doors down the street from the original location. Here, he could create a boutique practice that served people he also called neighbours and friends.

Midroni Family Dental Care is right in midtown Toronto on a stretch of Eglinton that has a real neighbourhood feel, and working and living in the same community made all the difference. "We're a city practice and yet there is this sense of small town care where, as a dentist, you know your patients so you become accountable fast. Above all, the experience is kept personable and homey."

Neighbourly Service

“I want my patients to know and trust me and to feel comfortable in the chair,” says Dr. Midroni, who takes the time to get to know families and their needs. He keeps the practice small enough that he can provide personal service to everyone at the highest level. “Dentistry is an intimate service, and people need help bringing the apprehension down.”

To that end, Dr. Midroni offers comprehensive exams to create a full game plan for your teeth, including  gum care, cleanings, fillings, implants, crowns, bridges and dentures as well as consulting specialists when necessary. Plus, because he has a diploma in dental anesthesiology, the office doubles as a mini dental hospital. It offers a full range of sedation services onsite, including everything from laughing gas to full blown general anesthetic for kids and adults.

The anxiety level of typical dental offices is not felt here, and that’s primarily because Dr. Midroni is nearby, always calm and approachable. “When patients feel like they’re home, they feel safe and cared for. And that’s my primary goal."
