Monkey business

Richard Fox-Revett sometimes refers to his children as monkeys. In fact, that is where he got the inspiration for the name of his restaurant.

The Monkey Bar & Grill offers a warm, inviting atmosphere and impeccable service. The menu consists of many comfort food favourites, with Canadian, Italian, French and Asian influences, and uses local and organic ingredients where possible. All the desserts and breads are made in-house.“The idea behind it is to offer upscale cuisine at affordable prices,” says Richard.

“Its not just about the food, it’s about the show, the environment,” he says. “At The Monkey Bar & Grill we offer a fine balance of having fun, but still maintaining elegance and calmness.”

Food for thought

Before opening The Monkey Bar & Grill, classically-trained chef and proprietor Richard Fox-Revett worked in some of Toronto’s finest restaurants. The Monkey Bar & Grill menu offers a variety of dishes to impress any food connoisseur including meat, seafood, poultry, vegetarian and vegan selections and many menu items are paleo-friendly and gluten-free. Chef Richard’s consistent friendly service and impressive knowledge has kept business hopping at his much-loved restaurant.

‘Everybody has dishes that they come for,’ says Richard. ‘Everything is a specialty here. I offer dishes for vegans and meat eaters. I have dishes on the menu that I’ve had since I’ve opened and I have additions that people do not want removed from the menu.’

The Monkey Bar & Grill wine list offers a comprehensive selection of new and old world wines, many by the glass and half litre, as well as an impressive variety of Canadian wines, a variety of premium vodkas and single malt scotch.

Family dining favourite

Patrons of The Monkey Bar & Grill find the modern cozy restaurant to be the perfect place to eat any night of the week, especially at the coveted window tables offering a full view of Yonge Street. Over 17 years, Richard’s long list of repeat patrons include customers that he has watched grow up, get married and have children of their own. “The kids want to go somewhere where they want to be looked after and the same goes for the adults,” says Richard. “At The Monkey Bar, I offer the best of both worlds; you won’t find that in many places.”
