A Barbershop and Salon that Gets Back to its Roots

Following a career in computing, Andrew, owner of Whitby Barbershop and Hair Salon found himself returning to his roots when he opened his hair salon in 2002.

"I started to cut hair when I was a teenager. It was something I took to naturally. When I came to Canada, I was working in IT but as the work was contract based, I had free time in between jobs so I went back to barbering in the breaks. Eventually, I decided to return to my original trade because I enjoyed it so much," he says.

Full gentlemen's barbering services are available at this friendly Whitby barbershop. Ladies and children are welcomed with a range of salon services as well.

Our customers come from a range of ages and backgrounds. We have young guys who come every week, policemen and firefighters who come every second week and seniors who come every six weeks or so. - Andrew, owner

The Hot Towel Treatment

A customer needs to feel comfortable when they get their hair cut. They need to know that they will get what they ask for rather than what the barber wants. The personalized service at Whitby Barbershop and Hair Salon goes that extra mile to help customers relax while they hand over the fate of their hair to Andrew and his staff.

"With a haircut you get a little scalp massage and with a shave a nice hot towel," Andrew says. "We're also sports oriented. We love sports and talk about it all the time. We have a trivia question quiz for customers regularly just for fun."

While the good old shave and a haircut are definitely the mainstays of Andrew's business, he also happily cuts children's hair as well as women who drop in for a quick trim.

"Gentlemen are our main customer base but we also cater to children, teenagers and ladies. Our customers come from a range of ages and backgrounds. We have young guys who come every week, policemen and firefighters who come every second week and seniors who come every six weeks or so."

After so many years in the trade, Andrew's hard work is reaping rewards. He says that most of his business is word of mouth which is a source of great professional satisfaction for him.

"When a customer recommends us to a friend or colleague it means they're happy. This is success for me."

Stay in School and Save on Your Haircut!

Whitby Barbershop and Hair Salon runs a special offer for its teen customers.

"We offer a special offer haircut for teenagers for $15 so long as they stay in school! If they get suspended, and I'll find out if they have, they pay the usual $17," Andrew says. The proud father of a teenage son himself, Andrew says he knows how hard it is for kids to come up with cash.

"I want to help out a little on the money side of things, give them a great haircut and provide teenagers with an incentive to behave at school".
